If you think the gays won't be at TIL for Calderone...haha...they might have their shirts on, but the club will be over 50% gay...and I will also guarentee that the vibe will be nothing like it will be when he starts playing at Sonic |
why do they follow Calderone? Does he represent their untraditional orientation? |

Well let's just say that there's a symbiotic relationship between gay clubbers and V. Calderone....
He made his name at LIQUID SUNDAYS IN SOUTH BEACH (Those were the days!!) which was a gay nite... That's where he got the Ingrid Casares/Madonna hook up and the rest is history...
He made us queens dance, we made him resident DJ and his talent made him a star..... |

Excellent review.
It's amazing how all of you Montrealers came out to this party. I'm glad you had fun! |

He doesn't "respresent" anything...why would you say that?
He no doubt is quite aware of the massive support he's received from the gay community for the better part of a decade and regularly headlines at NYC Pride. |

Loretta, darling - I couldn't have written a better review. I hope to experience this new club soon, so I can actually also write a review about it.
Sonic - get ready because more Montrealers are traveling again this weekend to check out the place - and knowing Danny Torrence style, I know he is going to put a show in Toronto.

So lemme get this straight...
- TiL is too pretentious and stuck up
- Guv has too many sketched out asians and is too packed all the time
- Fly has way too many Gay guys
- Lot 332 and Mink are too poshy and mainstream
- CoZo is too scary and sketchy
- Money, Republik and any other clubs that don't play your style of music are no good to you
- SONIC, on grand opening night no less, had a huge line-up, was a little disorganized and too many gay guys
If I was a club owner I would be pulling my hair out right now. This city is full of nothing but whiners and little kids that have too many toys to play with but yet still want more. What more do you people want? I always here people saying "why can't we have clubs like Ibiza, Miami, New York, Montreal...."....guess what people???
DAVID MORALES IS BRINGING US THAT CLUB!!!
I guess the real question is, is Toronto ready or even want that kind of club? I know I do, and I know about 2000 people last Saturday night do. It seems everyone wants everything to be there way, all the time and the minute something goes against what they want, they bitch and complain...but yet still go back to the same club week in and week out??? If you seem to find yourself constantly picking apart a club instead of enjoying the music...maybe you're better off staying at home in your basement and listening to mixed CD's you've made.
Is it any wonder that Danny Tenaglia vowed he would never play in Toronto again after Industry closed? Maybe because that was the last time Toronto has seen a true afterhours club. And does it not make sence that the man behind Boa, which got Danny T back to Toronto, is also now the talent coordinator at Sonic? Makes you think that someone actually might know what they're doing and are damn good at it.
Sonic is bringing us the afterhours experience, amazing international talent, the best Toronto local resident and doing it all in a slick as hell atmosphere with an unparalelled sound system. There is going to be gay guys, straight guys, shirtless guys,...it,s gonna be packed, there will be lines at times....but for god's sake people...it's gonna be the best club in the city....that is if you truly understand the music and everything that comes with it. |
WIKKID POST.......
and reading through all the  comments in this thread - it is not at all surprising.......some people say that "Toronto people don't know how to party - I can agree with that statement totally (not always but quite often enough that is is disheartening) - there are those that do it up properly - put music and friends first......and over the last 15 years.....this perfect combination of friends and music coming first seems to have been replaced with posturing/posing and lack of understanding for the music and huge dose of antisocial drugs and an air of self-rightousness with a touch of ignorance and intolerance.......
as a few people mentioned.....
GET A GRIP
THIS IS AN AFTERHOURS
TORONTO NEEDS THIS SPACE
COULD BE AN ANSWER TO THE VOID INDUSTRY LEFT WHEN IT CLOSED
and Steve I wish this last point could happen........but with comments like this from just a sampling of internet posters with a SUPPOSED HIGHER KNOWLEDGE OF THE CONCEPTS OF CLUBBING NUANCES......this is an indication of why this may not happen.....which is truly sad - I LOVED THAT PLACE LIKE NO OTHER and the organic way it grew into what it was may never be replicated in the environment we have have now with an almost SEGREGATED viewpoint of what should be or not be allowed......who in the hell do people think they are trying to force their OWN supposed rules to how house music should make you feel and act.....
there should only be/is one rule:
HOUSE MUSIC HAS AND WILL ALWAYS BE A SPIRITUAL THING - A BODY THING -- A SOUL THING
which ever way you are moved/inclined/able to find THOSE 3 THINGS...... whatever makes you JACK - is personal and individualistic ....eschewing CONFORMITY AND BOUNDARY SETTING...it is what house music was born from and people should remember that !
P.S. Congrats to Carey/Jeff/Tara/JennStar/Gavin/Gairy and the rest of the SONIC team....take some heed from the door/coatcheck/greased bouncers comments in this thread - and iron that out - and then proceed to show the "UNEDUCATED - WHAT THE HELL HOUSE IS ABOUT!"
WE GOTTA RETURN TO THAT FEELING......
SHOW THEM WHOSE GOT THE BIGGEST BALLS - WHILST TEARING DOWN THE WALLS!
