some good points there people.
i dont wish to speak ill of the dead. and i certainly only do so when i feel strongly about it, but carlton has been a pet peeve of mine for many years. i just resent people being elevated to sainthood just because they have passed on. living or dead, no one should be beyond criticism, and mostly i think carlton was a bully with a camera. |

Yes you're right DYING DOES NOT EARN YOU RESPECT. HOWEVER, EVEN IF HE WASNT THE BEST JOURNO, HE HAS STILL MADE AN IMPACT TO TRY & HELP OTHERS AS PROVEN WITH SOME OF HIS STORIES. OFCOURSE ITS NOT DISRESPECTFUL TO HAVE DIFFERENT OPINIONS, HOWEVER COMMENTS LIKE THESE ARE DISRESPECTFUL:

i cant believe when i say this thread title i almost belived this might be a serioust non gay thread, oh was i wrong. i really liked this guy, but as everyone has pointed out, they either hated or loved him.
The sad thing for me was when i heard the autograph he gave a little girl just before he died.

dont worry dude^^^ its only a minority of some uncultured people who make scantily comments about the dead like that, making jokes of the dead, wishing bad things upon them, etc.

just out of interests sake, what exactly is it im meant to be showing respect for? im curious. if after a person's death isnt the perfect time to appraise their life, when exactly is? if you really want me to i can catalogue a whole bunch of evidence to support my belief that he was an ego bully with a camera if you wish...

I hate to point this out but you are doing what you accuse other people of doing on other issues. People who have different opinions to you are not necessarily uncultured. Just to make my position clear here, I do not believe Richard Carlton deserved respect while he was alive and being dead does not alter my opinion. He was prepared to lie and cheat to create sensational "stories". I believe you are very genuine in your beliefs [ a big softy in fact!] , but I think there are far worthier people for you to defend. |

I never said people who have different opinions are uncultured, its quite unambiguous that my main point throughout is- that people who make fun of the dead-by making jokes & wishing bad upon them have no respect, HENCE ARE UNCULTURED.
And Im not aiming this personally to you Didi, you dont have to like him but you dont go wishing bad things upon him.
I dont care if someone is more worthy or not, who am I to judge that.
I just find it appalling on what some of the attitudes have been.
Regardless or not if he took stories off other people, was a bully or whatever, someone has lost a father, a husband, a friend.
Have respect for those people.
Pkc lol I hardly watch 60 min, but I do recall once in a blue moon seeing 'some' good stories by a variety of journo's on the show!

I didn't take it personally and I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on some things here. I do agree it's very sad for his family.
btw I don't think you can actually wish anything worse on someone who is dead! |
