i dont know why, but it feels like ive lost an old friend.
| quote: | | But it has been with 60 Minutes that Richard Carleton has become a national identity. From the fall of communism in Europe, to the rise of Thatcherism in Britain, to the end of apartheid in South Africa and implosions of democracies elsewhere on that Continent, Richard Carleton has been Australia's man-on-the-spot. The Gulf War, the Bosnian War, the sectarian war in Northern Ireland, the internecine wars of the Middle East, the guerilla wars of Central America -- he has reported all of them and always with great distinction. And with his unique understanding of Australian politics it has been Richard Carleton who has brought meaning and insight to many of the great affairs and issues of Australia. |

damn always loved when he would say that :( :(
some bad luck there aswell :(
| quote: | | Carleton had a history of health problems. In 1988, he had a heart bypass, which was televised, and he had a heart attack in 2003. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year and began a course of hormone treatment before undergoing a common surgical procedure last month. |

this is Richard Carleton the one who reported on 60 Minutes, and asked the hard hitting questions.. right up to his demise.

he was as head. i particularly loved the time he used 60 mins to "vindicate" one of his own stories, with some brilliantly unscientific "research". nothing like using ones greater access to the "free" press for your own personal agenda.
ive been making carlton jokes all day. good riddance. |
