Creatine provides an extra "boost" when working out/doing athletic activity. It is naturally occuring in the body and is very quickly used up. Taking creatine supplements just replenishes your body with it. One of the side effects is a little more water retention, thats all.

supplements are good if you have a busy schedule and dont have time to prepair 5 or 6 set meals. in this cse their essential for your workout. creatine is good in small doses. i take it every few months when i want to get to the next level.

i'd just like to say in this thread to the people saying that "the best answer is normal food" that i don't think it matters. i've lived entirely off of supplements and multi-vitamins for looooooong periods of time...and had awesome success during those times. eating is just about amounts and proper percentages. it's just science...you give your body what it needs and it responds the way you tell it to...

start off cheap. i bucket whey protein for 2-3 1 scoop a day shakes (takes a while to acclimate) and then a bucket of noxplode ONLY for days when you are gonna go NUTS otherwise its 80 bucks a month for nothing. Waiting for crazy days and then using it wisely stretches out your investment

i would maybe start with something from GNC..but then if you start getting serious...order online. GNC is so expensive...ordering online saves a lot...

Creatine I think is a bit dodgy. It does give u more energy and it can make your muscles look bigger by making them retain water, there are people who say it's bad for your kidneys. Apparently to get the best results out of it you need to "cycle" it... whatever.. not worth the trouble imo.

Protein is what your body builds muscles from anyway. Protein powders just help you take in more protein without the fat that's associated with eating heaps of meat. Usually it is made of either soy extract, whey extract (whey is the liquid that forms when milk curdles... the solids are the curds and they get turned into cheese), or egg white. Whey protein powder tends to be the best, in particular the Whey Proetin Isolates (WPIs). Casein is another protein found in milk it doesn't increase muscle synthesis as much as whey protein but it causes a slow release of amino acids throughout the day, repairing muscle breakdown.

There are a whole bunch of chemical supplements out there, some of them that even mess with hormone production in your body. Personally I'd just stick to the naturally sourced protein powders.
