It was and it wasn't. Of course motion-sensing in video games isn't their idea; but the fact that they decided to take such a bold step in incorporating motion/tilt-sensing into video gaming was their idea. They've been talking about changing the way we play video games for a long time, before the controller was even shown off, before any company even thought of incorporating the technology like this. |
Actually, Wii-mote-like patents have been submitted prior to Nintendo's by Microsoft but not with the intent of gaming. But yes, you are true in saying that this is a huge change and hopefully a step forward than a push back.

The PS3 controller is basically the wii-mote with the shell from the looks of it; but lacks any sort of motion sensors. What makes the wii-mote so special is the way wii'll be able to play FPS games. |
I can't even give it that much credit, I'm afraid. The PS3 controller's 6-axis rotation gimmick seemed like a last minute add-on and a bad one, at that.

Being limited by 2 thumbsticks will be a thing of the past (or in Microsoft's and Sony's case: "the next generation of gaming") |
Granted Nintendo's risky move is a step in the right direction... Let's hope the device works well. :) |

You bring up a good point. I wonder how PS3 will prevent pirated games from working on the system. I know someone will be stupid enough to hack it. It's inevitable I guess. I see 360 games already leaked. But to play them :conf: |

| I love how Nintendo just one-upped Sony and included a mic/speaker in the controller :) |

I just hope developers allow users the ability to adjust the sensitivity at any given time. If I'm back from work, usually tired, the last thing I wanna do is swing my arms around in Zelda. Simple wrist gestures would be better |

| Wow! Nice. Though I would've liked the original silver or gold look more. I'm glad that Sony isn't doing completely what Nintendo is - putting all this BS on the controller that would take a while to get used in order to play a simple game. A little motion sensing, like this 6-degree thing Sony wants to come out with, with nice, though. |

blasphemy! i'll take free games over real games anyday. AND you can get USB to SNES/NES/XBOX/GENESIS/N64 adapters.. come on now | Right. I prefer the older 2 & 2.5D-style that was present until 1996 or so on consoles and still today on the GBA, over the most games that are mostly eye-candy & special FX now. :-/ Emulation, live on! |

Have you thought about what it would be like flailing the controller around with both hands while trying to use the analog sticks and pressing other buttons, simultaneously? Now I'm not giving the benefit of the doubt to Nintendo for making the controller feature-heavy but still, you can't really bash a console till you try it.
...
Unless you bash ALL consoles. Haha. Universal haters are funny. |

You'll probably never do that. The tilting AND analog sticks are both for movement...you are either going to do one or the other. I cant imagine a game where you would have to do all that at once. |
