actually, i kind of like moral's point, the more i think about it. what if white people were the black people of today, culturally speaking.. hmmm |
I would imagine that the po' white trash act in just as inappropriate and non-courtious manner as do the blacks that would fit into the same cohort as the lady Rob encountered today if placed in the same situation. Sure their verbiage and accents may differ but the general lack of respect for there fellow citizen and stand-offish attitude would likely be the same. |

Ohmahgaht! Like, Johnny T is in it!
But I don't know if that's exactly what it's about... I've never seen it.
I'm just a smacky retard on a couch right now. |

i once got bitched out by this woman because i was carrying a pillowcase full of candy (it was Halloween) and her kid was running up the sidewalk and ran into it... so she ran up and started yelling at me and accusing me of "beating" her kid with the pillowcase full of candy.
i was like 13 years old, and soooo scared. :stongue: |

i agree but i was just thinking.. i know a lot of cambodians around my town, they're great people, but they live in the poorest part of the city. and, their entire family lives under one roof (i.e. grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, brother in laws, etc)
They're probably (and i hate to say it since i respect them) the lowest class in my city, economically. yet i know for a fact that they would hold the door open for people, politely say thank you, extremely hospitable, etc etc.
so maybe it's a mixture of both? money and race? |

i dont like to attribute a persons attitude and behavior based on their color.
but i do.
its more of a two-step process.
if they are black, they are black.
just another human.
same boat as me.
but if that black person is sagging their pants, wearing a doo-rag or whatnot, gold teeth, cannot talk clearly, yad yada ... im gonna make my judgement right there.
i admit its ignorant, but mostly im right.
i use the same process on other minorities and whites of course too.

Different cultural values thought too.
If I'm not mistaken, Cambodians, Laotians, and other southeast Asian cultures place exceptionally high value on honoring the family and community, something that you don't see emphasised nearly as much in many African American communities. |

yeah, that's the problem with physical appearance.. i guess it's true, looks are everything. (at first.)
this reminds me, i was talking to a local bar owner about a gig yesterday, and she went on this huge ass long speech about why she refuses to let djs spin too much rap.. because, and i quote, "the place gets dark." |
