Different cultural values thought too.
If I'm not mistaken, Cambodians, Laotians, and other southeast Asian cultures place exceptionally high value on honoring the family and community, something that you don't see emphasised nearly as much in many African American communities. |
so true, so true. at my job, i can't go a day without eating lunch with them.. it's rude NOT to accept food from them. i wish american culture was more like that. |

| I never really had that kind of problem in NYC with any people of race, whether I was in the ghetto or not. And in any case, if I was to tell a lady (no matter color or race) that she dropped $5, they would all be polite about it, especially the ones that arent doing so well. |

moving from NY to Wisconsin was quite a culture shock. it took me a long time to get used to how segregated it is out here... it's just sooo different.
i remember showing up to a house party in Madison maybe 6 months after i moved here, and there was a black dude at the party who was friends with one of the dudes who lived there, and i thought to myself "omg, it's been forever since i've hung out with a black person... wtf!"
it was weird. :wtf:
edit // only difference about NY is that you have people with cocky NY attitudes to deal with sometimes... |

Well anytime you live in one of these big cities where fashion and self-image are important, you always have to deal with that. |

Is it terrible that after laughing at that, I imagined someone holding a fishing rod dangling a ham in front of Teri saying "You can't have it! Haha!"
