Who was the first to use the famous "Supersaw Lead"?! Was it Rank 1 in Superstring?

Hi,
A question for the experts.. does anybody know which was the first band/artist to invent and use the famous "Supersaw Lead"?!
Personally I think it was Rank 1 in there remix of "Superstring" back in 2000 I believe. The year before they made "Airwave" where they used that sound as a sweeping string, but it was in there remix of "Superstring" that they used that sound as lead by essentially giving the sound a short attack and decay and so they made that lead sound.
Now, where they really the first or do you know of another artists who used that lead sound before them in a track? |

Hardly. Just about every single track made in '99 used the supersaw.
The oldest blatant example I can think of right now is Albion's Air from '97 but there's bound to be some before that... |

| You could say Jam & Spoon used a somewhat primitive one in Follow Me during the big breakdown in that song. |

All I can say is I still love supersaws :p. Many ppl seem to get tired of it; and all that mc-prog stuff doens't use it anymore...
For me an uplifting trance track can't contain enough supersaws :tongue2 |

Every band in '99 used it? Anybody can give some good examples..
I know that it was used alot as arpeggiated riffs like System F's "Out of the blue", but wasn't it Rank 1 in Superstring who used it as a clear lead for the first time?.. Really curious to find out.. |

yeah, System F and Rank 1 were tremendous trancebands back in 1999.
Benno always played that supersaw bass guitar. |

How is the riff from OOTB not a clear lead? |

Yah, the Beach Boys always had those huge ing supersaw breakdowns with the 4 minute snare rolls like in Little Deuce Coupe. |
