Everything was fine with my first two years of schooling until now. I'm actually having to take out loans.. Some of you may laugh whilst you'll be paying off school for the next 20 years, but I can't envision myself doing that. I know I'm thinking irrationally, but I can't come to grips with going in debt.
Another thing, I'm attending an out of state university and decided to move in state. However, I'm still having to pay out of state tuition for the next year. I figure if I'm dropping the extra $, it might as well be for a state I'd love to reside in, somewhere on the coast, right? If I'm going to be drowning in subsidized loans, it might as well be in a location with water and sand. Pensacola here I come! |
pensacola?
that place is probably a hole filled with rednecks and military people. lol i've never been, but that's what i envision.
go to like bradenton or something. not quite as crazy as south florida, but not quite as rednecky as northern florida. |

haha
I only thought the northern region because I knew I'd save money. A friend said he used to live right on the water and paid only $800/mo. for his condo in Pensacola. |

yea i guess that makes sense.
maybe you'll meet a hot navy guy. i think there's a big navy base there;) |

Yeah, I can't do any research without coming across the mention of the base, ditto as to the pictures lol. I remember going to St. Augustine as a kid and remember feeling enchanted. Now that I'm looking at pictures, it is georgous. What have you heard about it?
edit/ isn't Bradenton right by Clearwater & Petersburg? |

jamie like the others people told u i think and im glad u decided to go on school .....almost done with it so yeah it's hard but u'll be fine at the end and u'll be glad to have your degree :) education is the key to a lot of things and then im sure u'll end up having a nice job which will afford you to get what u desire !
but sometimes yeah u gotta be patient .....i think we all wish we had money right now and could get all the things we desire but for that u need a job .....so yeah keep going to school that will pay in the end and u still can do the real estate agent thing later !:)
good luck anyway :) |

yea it's a little south of clearwater.
clearwater/petersburg sucks. i have family there and whenever i have to visit them, i can only tolerate it there for like a couple of days for some reason. it's really redneck and old school. my dad lived there for a few years and had a house in largo, and it was a nice place, but i hated living there. ughh...tampa is even worse if u ask me.
i mean as far as the people n stuff.
not that miami is any less ghetto, but i dunno, it's just a little different.
2 totally diff types of beach atmosphere. |

Ok i'm at a crossroads here. the more i think about school and my education, and the more i struggle with bills and living in miami (VERY expensive), the more annoyed i get at the fact that i'm paying 65k for a bachelors degree from an art school, (which is highly accredited, dont get me wrong), that is not nationally accredited. meaning, if i decide i want to go to graduate school at UM or something, i can't. |
There's one of your problems right there. Solution: Go to a school that is nationally accredited and stop wasting your money there.

now, i love advertising, i love photography. i'm extremely creative and i really think i would be a great asset to the advertising industry, but the truth is, i'm lazy, i'm not competative, and i love money. i also know that upon graduating, i will be someone's bitch pretty much for a couple of years making less than what i make now as a legal secretary. |
The truth is in the long run you'll make more money graduating so don't give up.

i have too many other passions in life that don't require a degree...like shopping, travelling, going to the spa, nice cars, a nice crib, etc... so as i've come to grips with this, i've realized that i want to have money, and i want to have money now. i want to travel and party in my late 20's and early 30's and i want to be able to go shopping whenever i want and drive a nice car. i'm not ashamed to admit this. i've been exposed to the finer things in life, and i want it. and i want to be able to provide it for myself and even my boyfriend (hey, i'm very generous:)) i want to be able to afford having kids some day and not have to worry about bills. i want to be happy. |
Are you suggesting that you would like a job where someone would pay you to go shopping, traveling, going to the spa, own a car, own a house? I'm sorry but that doesn't make sense. There is no such career and what you describe are hobbies that obviously don't require a degree. You're mixing apples with oranges.

anyway (i promise i'm getting to the point), i've always toyed with the idea of getting my real estate license. i know a few people who have done it and they seem to be pretty financially stable and happy. am i really really passionate about real estate? i wouldn't say yes. but...i HAVE always been the type of person who notices certain things a real estate agent would, when going to someone's house for the first time. i notice things like location, granite counter tops, tile and/or carpeting, backyards, distance to highways, etc...and i know south florida like the back of my hand, so all of this tells me i'd probably be fine doing this.
|
Again graduate college first and then pursue whatever the hell you want and if this real estate thing doesn't work out for you then you'll always have your degree to fall back on.

my mom didn't finish college and raised me by herself so she pretty much embedded in my head that i'm a loser without a degree. my dad isn't a college graduate, but he's very very smart and makes 125k
should i just drop out of my school and go for it? i know my parents would be really disappointed. i think i would hide it from them at first...like until i sold my first couple of properties and showed them, "Hey look mom and dad, i just made sick money selling real estate and i'm an actual agent now". |
Bill Gates also didn't graduate college either and look at him now. Do you think you can pull off a Bill Gates? If you answered no then you probably should also know that your dad is one of the lucky ones. |

haha no i wasn't saying i need a job that pays me to do that stuff. i wish!
i just meant that those are my other main passions...actually, it sounds really superficial to say "passions" when talking about that stuff, hahah. let's just say it's important to me to live life to its fullest and that requires money. i just meant that since i feel that way, should i go for a job where i dont have to work as much but can make that kind of money? i know in the advertising industry i will be pulling "all nighters" for big projects and working late all the time. i'm sure i wont mind if i love what i'm doing, but i dont want to miss out on all that other stuff i mentioned either.
thanks for ur input though. i'm gonna stick it out and get my degree. and yea, i know i can't pull a bill gates and i know my dad is just one of those lucky ones. but he DOES work really hard and has been with the same company for years...he's earned it. |

as said in one of the comments above, you'll probably need a degree to do real estate anyway, and also will need that killer drive to make it happen which you also said you dont have...
|
no, if you have a degree in Real Estate, you don't even need to take the test to get your license. However if you don't have a degree you do have to take the test.
And to people saying that the schedule will be more flexible well that depends, and i seriously doubt it. My GF goes to work from 10 to 6 everyday except for two days she has off. If she dosen't show to work she can get fired. Also they don't pay here to be there.
Real Estate is not all gardens and flowers.
Oh and Slylee, being loyal and honest will get you nowhere in Real Estate, keep that in mind. |

lmao
well i just generally know what people want and i can read people well, which i think is key when finding a home for someone. i can't explain it, but i have a different approach to sales and i know most people would laugh and say it will get me no where, but i beg to differ. |
