Cool, I hate when things get heated, debating shouldn't be about insults etc, and I am guilty of that unfortunately this time...

But please do take the time to read that thread "Drugs (tripping on NRG)" .. It was a long thread, but an interesting one..

It made me realize using 'legalization' broadly as a term to be very wrong, and now I am very carefull to only say decriminalization :)

I take back what I said about not respecting you, in fact you remind me VERY much of how I was when I was around 21, hugely anti-drugs but not dumb about it.

Anyhow, no hard feelings, I just think this all got off on the wrong foot.

ya i was a jerk in this debate....atleast in some aspects....i will go and read that other thread...but tomorrow...i am so tired..LOL...

anyway....jus cus we dont agree on this topic COMPLETELY (meaning you and Devbert have some good points that interest me) doesnt mean we should hate each other...so i am glad we are cool...

Not too mention completely racist.....

The punishment for being caught with cocaine, a primarily "white drug," is about 5-6 times less severe as being caught with crack, a "black drug." I wish I had numbers for you right now, but I can't find my notebook from my Criminal Justice in America course that i took last year. If requested, I can look for it to provide a more concrete argument.

Wow, i Just spent the last 45 minutes reading through this thread. Very interesting debate. In the event that it will be continuing, I look forward in participating. If it wasn't so late right now, I would probably post about it now, but since i don't want to jump in without proper factual support and a clear and feasible argument, I will hold off until the next chance I get to sit down and gather thoughts and facts. Until then gentlemen...

We need to get a weekly debate going in the chill room about current events. Debating is good stuff.

Here's some good reading, firstly an answer to some common drug war myths such as the one about legalization/decriminalization showing big increases in drug use (just not true)...

http://www.csdp.org/research/dwdist.htm

The UK abandoning the 'Just say No' anti-drug campaign in favor of real education.. (this is why I was so snippy about your comments earlier with Reagan's Just So No campaign) :)

more info on that subject, an article called "Scotland Minsters Declare War on Drugs is Over"

http://www.mapinc.org/norml/v02/n374/a10.htm

A good example of how the USA won't even use logic in policy, the heated debate of "Hemp Farming" ... Hemp is a non-active brother to marijuana, this plant when farmed can be used in foods, made into clothing.. Once hemp farming was prolific, but due to drug paranoia its been banned in the USA.. Even though the rest of the world makes a distinction between hemp and marijuana, the US government chooses to ignore science and logic :)

Reaction to the Superbowl ads and the White house policy, really good article :)

Again, a great starting point for articles/stories involving drugs. Remember most of these articles are from news sources, this isn't pro-drug articles, but of course read anything with a grain of salt.

Oh, this was something worth checking too, stats on deaths in the USA... This shows how low drug related deaths are:

The problem in perspective :D << I love this one

Do we focus on the right drugs?

A POLICE VIEW ON THE
WAR ON DRUGS
Statement of Chief Hubert Williams,

The president of the 'Police Foundation' speaks out against the drug war... :)

Proof on how a smart approach to drugs like in the Netherlands can not only solve many drug war problems, but have lower levels of drug use than the USA..

Some Marijuana myths debunked

http://www.csdp.org/ads/mjtruth.htm

Drug Czar Mcaffery caught in one of his many lies, saying the Dutch drug policy doesn't work (cough cough, bull) :)

How Truth seems to be hard to find in the Drug War, more cases of Mcaffery pulling his best Pinochio impression.

http://www.csdp.org/ads/pinocchio.htm

Ok, thats plenty of food for thought. Remember one very important thing, these articles are put together by a pro-drug reform group, but they use statistics that the US government, FDA, etc.. have compiled

Statistics can exagerate and sometimes lie, but you'll see one thing common amongst these links is that many sources are used.

Sooo anyone check those links out? :D

Devbert
Good stuff. Nice information. Lots of it too.
Thor
I like how much of it is laid out nicely to read, so that people who read it don't have to read an essay to get an idea of the situation.

I especially love the comparisons to the Dutch, considering how well they do with illegal drugs, its quite eye opening to see the drug czar Mcaffery saying its worse over there.. The boss of the drug war who doesn't know what he's saying, that can't be good :D
