I totally agree..As much as I love my country, I felt a little bit ashamed at all the ridiculous, unneccesary praising. It was only the first game, and we didn't play our best...I think if we lost we would be partying regardless  lol.

ps. Go Portugal ;)

I love you.

This has bugged me for years now. Just today I had an arugument with a Italian guy and a Brazilian guy who just went on and on about soccer/football ( which ever you perfer to call it) and they were saying how they don't watch soccer at alll until a world cup comes on, then they get out the flags jersey's and whatever else. I understand that you like soccer to some degree or else you wouldn't watch it all, but in all honesty, you look like a dumb ass when you watch yet not know what's going on and who's doing what.
It happened to be " dress how you want day " at work since we are always officy dressed, and I was wearing one of my old Germany jersey's and they both jumped on me for wearing it, and how they suck, and they'll lose even though they have home fields. I know you have a favourite team, and that's great, BUT SO DO I. And they didn't seem to understand, all they wanted to do was convert me to thier team. The one thing that bugs me the most is that people think they can only support the team of the country you came from OR of what blood you have in you. Altough yes I am a Germany fan and I always have been ( win or loose) I also am a Sweden fan, and no they don't do that well, but i still support them.

I don't even live in a Portuguese neighbourhood and all I saw were flags EVERYWHERE as if they had already won. Relax. it's just starting. That goes for every team suppot group. I like the "4-3-2 Flat" rule Eric.

Sorry for ranting. Some people think this game is a joke, and don't know what the it's all about.

the end.

Vivid,

dont worry about the portuguese... they will suddenly all be brazilian once portugal drops out

LOL

PS im not argentine and i support the argentine team. The reason being is that they are a strong team and i really appreciate the passion of their fans.

In Argentina, the game is more like a religion than a sport.

BTW if canada ever got into the world cup, id support them just as any other citizen of any other country would support their own. And of course id then have my runner up favourites.

i support a different team each world cup. eventho im not of that nationality. why? because im a soccer fan, i have my favorite players and if theyre on a solid team i like then im behind them. like this year im with the czech's. i think theyre an exciting team, i loved watching them in the euro cup, and they totally won my heart with their performance. eventho im italian, i can prmosie u, u will never see me with a falg outside waving it around cuase theres enuff idiots who do it. but! BUT! i will admit deep down inside because of my nationality i do root for them just quietly to myself. like today they palyed well and i do believe they have a shot at it this year. and if they do win. i will admit i will probably be on college partying with the italians, jersey-less.

hmm, yeah.. disagree with this one! Sorry guys..

I do not watch soccer at any other time aside from the world cup/euro cup. Just because I dont know what you're 4-3-2 flat bs is about doesnt mean I cant appreciate the game. I can argue why I think one team is better than another, and even have a conversation about the sport without pretending to know everything. Just because someone doesnt eat, sleep and soccer doesnt mean they arent allowed to enjoy it.

I do agree with your whining about the ethnic bandwagon-jumpers, however :D

same. always root for the underdog. its boring when its the same big teams winning it time and time again.

Why do people feel the world cup is an excuse to shove their ethinicity down ur throat? all of a sudden everyone becomes a soccer expert when just 2 months ago they werent even watching any club team games. If u dont watch clacio to begin with u shouldnt be out with a in miniature flag acting like a in idiot hoking ur horn. the two worst nationalities for this are the portuguese and italians.

Portuguese yesterday almost lost to Angola, in my personal opinion, and they head out to danforth to party?!?!? its the first round of the world cup and u oplayed like , and almost lost to angola and u go and party like idiots. and then to top it off they get into some huge brawl with eachother and end up getting arrested. in idiot portuguese.

and now we got the in wops. Im even italian and im in ashamed every 4 years to be italian. i dont even sport italian jersies, ill sport holland and the cezech republik cause i dont want to be associated with the big idiots that are italians during the world cup. Italian americans/canadians are a in shame to italy. they ruin the good name and our culture. all of a sudden these in mamalukes know everything abt soccer, when they werent even watchin series A 2 months ago. and now they just beat ghuana Im gonna hate to go outside in the next 5mins.

world cup is an excuse for people to shove their in ethnicity down ur throat and is not for the love of the game in this country. My rule of thumb is if u dont know what a "4-3-2 Flat" is u shouldnt be watching the world cup.

BTW GO CZECHS!

ing eh! Well said/ranted Vivid! Im with you 100%.

Great post topic! ;)

very true. but as for the teams, i think the italians are the worst soccer players. diving and being way too violent.
also, most of the people from the portuguese islands are the ones are usually the crazy dumb ones who give the rest a bad name.
and most portuguese girls are crazy. :p

The World Cup is no different than the Stanley Cup playoffs. All the 'Leaf fans' that are only interested in the playoffs come out of the woodwork. Who cares if they're idiots - it's the party of the day, who gives a damn why there's a party.

People at Tiesto shows are the same way - lots of ginos/ginas who don't know about EDM show up because it's the party of the day. It doesn't bother me - it keeps the venue filled. Would you really want to go to a Tiesto show where the club was only half full? Lots of floor space, but no vibe!

Wannabes help get attention for the sport, which is badly needed in Canada. Bigger profile might get more people playing and we might be able to actually develop some talented players. Besides, some of us are forced to wannabes. I have dual citizenship (Ireland/Canada) and BOTH my teams are out.

I saw a guy driving around with four different flags on his vehicle....WTF
