Dont worry the Pork & Cheese will be gone soon and then they become Brazilian!!! LOL

The funny thing is I heard once before there is only like a couple 1000 true Brazilians in all the GTA but I must have seen 10000 band wagon jumpers in the last 3 days!!!

Why do people feel the world cup is an excuse to shove their ethinicity down ur throat? all of a sudden everyone becomes a soccer expert when just 2 months ago they werent even watching any club team games. If u dont watch clacio to begin with u shouldnt be out with a in miniature flag acting like a in idiot hoking ur horn. the two worst nationalities for this are the portuguese and italians.

Portuguese yesterday almost lost to Angola, in my personal opinion, and they head out to danforth to party?!?!? its the first round of the world cup and u oplayed like , and almost lost to angola and u go and party like idiots. and then to top it off they get into some huge brawl with eachother and end up getting arrested. in idiot portuguese.

and now we got the in wops. Im even italian and im in ashamed every 4 years to be italian. i dont even sport italian jersies, ill sport holland and the cezech republik cause i dont want to be associated with the big idiots that are italians during the world cup. Italian americans/canadians are a in shame to italy. they ruin the good name and our culture. all of a sudden these in mamalukes know everything abt soccer, when they werent even watchin series A 2 months ago. and now they just beat ghuana Im gonna hate to go outside in the next 5mins.

world cup is an excuse for people to shove their in ethnicity down ur throat and is not for the love of the game in this country. My rule of thumb is if u dont know what a "4-3-2 Flat" is u shouldnt be watching the world cup.

BTW GO CZECHS!

As much as I sympathize with what you're saying about the Italians and the Portugese being loudmouthed pricks for a month every 4 years (wow, that's like, so often ), this is still a pretty dumb rant.

Your point about if you don't watch soccer regularly, you shouldn't watch or discuss the World Cup when it's on is completely ridiculous.

First, it's about as stupid as saying no one should be allowed to play soccer unless they're already really good at it. So if you're not, sorry, you can't pick up that soccer ball and kick it around. Everyone has to start somewhere. I agree with you that if you don't know soccer, don't act like an expert on it, but there has always been people who bull 24/7 - that's nothing new; just put them back in their place and be done with it.

Second, I enjoy the rivalries and the nationalism that arises during the World Cup. On a daily basis, people aren't really proud of being Canadian, so they might as well be proud of whatever nationality they are for that one month every four years. Yes, the Italians and Portugese overdo it, but everyone else already considers them douchebags, so the World Cup craziness that ensues doesn't surprise us as as much as it amuses us. Personally, I find it hilarious how they're all "WE'RE #1!" and then get knocked out and everybody's quiet (well except for the porkchops that quickly jump to the Brazilian team). Also, as much as it divides people because everybody is suddenly a hardcore nationalist, it also unites all of us because round this time, EVERYONE has something to talk about. Attendance in bars rises, conversations at the cooler are suddenly more intense and involved. People who don't normally talk are suddenly buddies, even if they come from different countries.

Thirdly, if they showed regular soccer games on TSN all year long, and nobody talked about soccer, and then the World Cup starts and everyone watches, then you'd have something to complain about. But, as it is, it's almost impossible to find a soccer game on TV during the regular season. And during World Cup, you just switch on the telly, and it's being shown SOMEWHERE. It's the same as the Olympics - it happens once every 4 years, and people get excited once every 4 years - it's REALLY hard to get excited about pole-vaulting during the non-Olympics time. How ridiculous would it be to complain about people that never watch freestyle swimming normally all suddenly start watching it during the Olympics?

Lastly, hate the bandwagoners all you want, but World Cup NEEDS them. It needs them for exposure, it needs them to grow. It needs them as much as the Trance community needs Tiesto. If World Cup was only watched by those soccer fanatics that have been playing soccer since they were 5, I doubt anyone outside the hosting country would even know about it, and the calibre of the competition would be that much lower. Yes, most people get all soccer-crazy around World Cup and then recede back when it stops, but some DON'T. For some the excitement that the World Cup brings pushes them to start playing soccer, which feeds the local teams with more talent. If everyone went "oh, well I don't play soccer/watch it regularly, so I shouldn't watch the World Cup", almost NOBODY would be playing soccer at all.

I enjoy the World Cup time. Not only because I get to watch a good soccer game everyday, but also because of everything else that changes during this time. Yes, the loudmouthed "fans" are annoying, but come on, Wold Cup can't bring ONLY the good, it has to bring some bad as well; and all things considered, the annoyance is a minor one.

I totally agree..As much as I love my country, I felt a little bit ashamed at all the ridiculous, unneccesary praising. It was only the first game, and we didn't play our best...I think if we lost we would be partying regardless  lol.

ps. Go Portugal ;)

one thing is for sure....WE OWN the dancefloor!!

Well said Cosmic Fur.

While in principle I agree, as there are far too many Persians that really know nothing about the game, yelling and flying the highest/loudest in my neighbourhood, it only happens every so often, and the game needs the exposure here.

Further, as Cosmic said, it does bring people together. My office has just been buzzing since the start of the tournament, and I don't see it as such a bad thing.

PS, hate the Italian team, every single one of them thinks they're a superstar.

BUT! i will admit deep down inside because of my nationality i do root for them just quietly to myself. like today they palyed well and i do believe they have a shot at it this year. and if they do win. i will admit i will probably be on college partying with the italians, jersey-less.

deep down......you want italy to win ;)

I do completely agree; some phenomena going on might be annoying, u might hate all this talk about everything and nothing...but as raving, this is an occasion in which mondial crazyness and energies join

El Kay Dee
ahahahaha....better yet is when the ports toss their flags half way thru the world cup when they get kicked out and then start sporting the brazil flags...

GO BRASIL!!!

I just don't get football/soccer.....its just sooooooooooo boring to watch...I'm sure I could find more excitement in the game if I understood the mindset and the play development but still....90 minutes of people running around a field and typically only one or two goals scored on a huge ass net.
