It's funny that you bring this up. B/c I did know this. The funny thing to me is that I live in an area where there was forest and trees everywhere when I was growing up. About 10 years ago they cut down a HUGE area where I used to go wandering and riding my bike down all kinds of paths near my house to build new houses.
My house is on a street where you can only turn one direction (the other area wasn't finished and was all forest)...just a couple days ago they started tearing down all the trees to build more street. I didn't realize how much it really meant to me until a couple of days ago when I saw it actually happen. I wish I had taken a picture of it...and now I'll never get the chance.
The city has all this free reign to cut down the forests etc. near my house...even if all the neighbours protest, but I have to get a PERMIT to cut down a tree on my own property? Bull . Free country my ass. (Wait I take that back...I'm thankful for a lot of the freedoms and rights we have...but these new laws and bans just piss me off. They're taking our freedoms away a little bit at a time). |

| Good. Driveways shouldn't be allowed to take up more than 75% of your lawn. Period. Its an eyesore in communities, and it leads to higher climate temps. (Yes, black pavement increases surrounding temps.) |

lol.. this thread is hilarious. The building of a driveway in front of a living space has been in the building code since the beginning of time. now if they expand there driveway away from there house into adjacent side property then there is no problems and the odds of 75% of your lawn being next to your house and not in front is quite slim. it's freaking markham.. Castles everywhere...
Parking in front of your house on the street? is that your street? do you own it? if i want you off it at midnight you better get moving.. live with it! what's the percentage of Markham house owners that have no driveway? 0.002%? I WANT A PRETTY STREET WITH NO CARS ON IT DAMN IT!!!
if you don't got a building permit, then your ass should be fined, too many times i have responded to some idiot who has nicked a gas line.. oooh yah that sounds like fun! if they don't grant your permit is because it's not to code.
I love it when people called to complain that something wasn't working and they start with the "well i was digging in my backyard", retards. |

My parents own a corner house that had 4 huge trees out front that pre-dated the home...but they only owned two of them. The crown or city owned the other two.
I'm not sure if this is still commonplace.
You also need a permit to put up a garage, erect a fence and undertake any major excavation or material change to the structure of your home...so why would you be surprised you need a permit to cut down trees?
I think this particular parking law is a bit over the top...but I certainly don't agree that people should be allowed to do as they please and pave over as much of their property as they want (which would negatively impact surrounding property values). |
