Good time. My favs:
1. Benny Benassi
2. Junkie XL
3. Derek Plaslaiko
4. Tiesto
5. Telefon Tel Aviv
Benny surprised me. He played some killer tracks - such as a breakbeat rmx of Moby - "Go" that was f'in insane and then a SICK rmx of Pink Floyd's "The Wall"... it hit so damn hard. Blew me away. Unfortunately, most likely due to the massive partying @ Spybar the night before, I did not get to Purenation until after 2pm - and thusly missed Blake's set. :( Oh well. Junkie XL was amazing. It was actually the first time I saw him live. Had chances before but never got to. Again track after track of hard-hitting stuff, with INSANELY MASSIVE kicks that just obliterated the crowd. He had one of the sickest breaks I ever heard.. after the break was done, the kick started, and it sounded like that was the main kick - but it wasn't. A few bars later, the main kick hit, I just went nuts. Massive kicks. Not only was Derek's music selection fine, but he also played all vinyl, for some reason that made a real impression on me. Deep Dish disappointed me. They played the same song twice ("Party All the Time") and their set was generally low-energy and didn't do much for me. They did play Chasing Cars remix though and that was sweet. The one highlight of their set, perhaps. Tiesto had a great set, I liked much of what he played. He played some really really good trance later on.. Especially this one track. Dave Clarke - I was expecting much more out of him after hearing stuff about him. BUT one thing though - Tony said he played 2 Nitzer Ebb tracks... I was at the 2nd stage and missed em. But that is pretty sweet I would have liked to hear that. Anyway.
The sound setup really impressed me. I would have to say this was the best outdoor live sound I have ever heard. Sound setup at stage 2 was decent but I think I was spoiled by the main stage.
Great event, I will be in line for round 2 next year. Ultra who? ;p
A few pics.

I was blown away. Best music event I've ever been too. I hope they do this again next year. It was worth every dollar. Holy , I'm still moving from yesterday.
Everyone was great, except Dave Clark and Bad Boy Bill didn't do a whole lot for me. |

| Blake Jarrell didn't have much of a set. I showed up at 1:15 and all I saw was him walking away, and Justin Long putting on a killer show for the rest of their slot. Tiesto was a joke. It was my first time seeing him and all the negative reviews held up for me. At one point he completely walked away from the decks for about 5 minutes, and he also never stopped talking to the guys behind him. To me it just seemed like he wasn't taking it seriously. Deep Dish put on a killer show, and they were definitely my favorite. |

So what? Is a DJ required to be in front of the decks at all times for it to be a good show? I bet you don't even like trance. |

again I just added a Java-based fullscreen slideshow feature with configurable options. To use it open the hidden side-bar on the left (arrow icon pointing to the right) and click View Slideshow. You may get a prompt to install a Java add-in - click OK.
Hit escape to get out of the slideshow. You have to set the initial options, here is what I recommend:

Maybe Tiesto should have borrowed Junkie's air guitar. Would that have entertained you? His set was bangin'. Period.

I didn't say I didn't like the music he played, it was awesome, I just don't think he took it seriously. He didn't work the crowd and he was hardly paying attention. [edit] His encore was pretty good, even though it was blatantly planned.

Is that supposed to be an insult? Don't judge me fanboy, I'm entitled to my opinion. |

was alot of fun
there was some confusion with justin long and I opening, so I just played a few tracks and let him take over. still was an honor to be a part of it.
telefon tel aviv was great. really nice guys, i didnt realize they were actually born and raised in new orleans. they are doing a dj set at dannys monday night playing all old school new orleans rap which is certainly going to be entertaining.
was cool that deep dish played the chasing cars remix, i think topher nearly himself. sucked that their management had to tell tiesto that they already played it hahahah.
i thought the festival was amazing, couldnt have asked for better weather, lineup, etc. the sound was probably the best ive heard at an outdoor electronic music festival. |
