i finally checked out the new basement lounge. VERY plush decor and the sound down there is 11tybillion times better than before. the led tracers on the ceiling are also cool as hell. heard jerry bonham for the first time and he laid down a very good opening set, i was down. pvd's 4 hours were pretty impressive too. i actually got cramps from dancing for the first time lol. he started off with melodic/anthemy trance, then went into tech and progressive trance, and threw in some electro and breaks and even a tribal track in there. there were a couple tracks i didn't care for, but every 10-15 min or so he'd drop a bangin rock-and-roll-ass track that just made everyone go nutty. taj closed up with a wicked set too... started off trancey, ended with some electro/techno beat-ridden nastiness. the place was pretty full from 11-5, but it wasn't as nightmarishly packed as i've heard it gets when pvd comes to sf. maybe because they broadcast pvd's set in 3 other rooms? the front room was pretty packed so i imagine that helped. presale vip ended up being worth it if you had more than 4 drinks. i got 6 so i'm happy :)

PvD... wow, what a great night! This was my first time seeing PvD and he did not disappoint. I may have to check him out in October when he spins in LA at the Monster Massive :p The place was pretty much packed from 11 - 4/5. I was all the way up by PvD 95% of the night, just rocking out.

I think I was right behind Dave for the first hour or so. Was Dave the big dood with the furry red hat? :)

Also, what was up with that parrot? lol Pretty cute though!

Also, what was up with PvD playing "Kyau vs. Albert - Are You Fine" TWICE the same night? I just checked out the TA review here of PvD the night before at the Vanguard in LA and he also did the same thing! :conf:

lol, I was not wearing a red hat, nor any hat for that matter.

I was the d00d in the booth taking pics. I'll work on picking the best ones and post. Had rules regarding the use of the Flash so 90% of my shots were done with no flash and using ISO 1600 so there's quite a bit of noise, but still damn neat!!

Anyhow, my thoughts.

Loved Jerry Bonham's opening set on its own. Still always just wish he'd finish off a litttle faster than he does, considering PvD is right after him. Great tunes, just when PvD comes on it's such a big jump. But I guess it's just not his style.

I thought overall PvD was very, very good. I imagine his set here was better than his LA set. From midnight to about 1:20 it was just awesome, then it went into a lull for about 20 minutes and then he got it going again from about 1:40-2:40 and then for awhile just seemed to be a bit all over the place. You'd think he was about to kick it up a notch and bring back the huge energy but would go in a different direction. Then he started playing some tracks with big breakdowns that just seemed out of place in the set. Then at about 3:25 he really cranked it up again and got it going and finished off awesomely playing until about 4:10am.

I was really impressed with a lot of the effects he was putting into the tracks with his keyboard, beat thingy, and the Xone 3D mixer. Some of his mixing (transitions) was a little suspect at points but never enough to really distract you.

PvD seemed to be in a very good mood because he was dancing and jumping (literally jumping!) around in the booth and was smiling a whole hell of a lot. He seemed to having a great time, and I'm sure the crowd helped him get into the mood....because...

The crowd was, well, really into it. I haven't seen a crowd into a set at Ten15 like that since like 2003. Reminded me of a night when Ferry played for 5 1/2 hours when he was booked for 3 because the crowd was just so insane. It didn't appear the place was nearly as crushing as I've seen it for PvD events, because it seemed like people actually took the opportunity to listen to the set from other rooms. I'm sure that made things more enjoyable/comfortable.

The lighting at Ten15 last night was better than I've ever seen it before. It was amazing, to say the least. Lots of Kryo!

Overall, I give the night an B+. Between PvD's set, the crowd, the lighting..hell, just the whole atmosphere, it was just a fun night overall. Although my back was killing me for 1/2 of PvD's set. The set could easily have been better, but it could also have been much, much worse. But it wasn't about that. It was about the experience of the night and when you consider everything involved -- music, crowd, lighting, etc -- it was just a great package overall.

Fun party, good set overall.

I love new fans to EDM and Paul, but seriously some people (especially the newbies) just have no respect for Paul and other perty go-ers. Specifically I am talking about constantly reaching into the DJ booth to shake Paul's hand, taking a billion pics in his face with the flash on, shoving others just to get "a little closer", constant screaming (of "Nothing but You"), getting so star struck and jumping violently around like a retard...blah...ruins it for me.

Here's a good pic (videos to follow):

OK, here's a few of my pics. Most of my pics look the same because there was no way I was going to take my camera into that crowd (people who had big ones in the crowd are brave -- I cannot afford to damage my camera!) and was told to not be in PvD's face and to not use the flash if possible...so I tried to respect that.

These pics are ISO 1600 because of it hence the noise. But think they are still kinda neat!

I have a TON more...
