The only live trance set I heard was Tiesto 3 times, and every time I was bored. But it was in Boston...LOL!!! I'd like to clear the current notions I have about trance.
So, who's current, who's good in montreal, what are your favorite tracks?
Is there such a thing as funky trance?
What about BPMs?
Tell me EVERYTHING!! |

K. Let me start off by saying; please be prepared for your thread to be flamed in a big way!!
I am hoping that trance is making a bit of a comeback. I think that the genre is getting a bit meatier and less fru-fru, which is more likeable for most. ( a lot of this has to do with the fact that the love affair with MDMA is over and the pink fluffy clouds have passed).
If you can wade through all the Tiesticle bull, he can play killer sets. I strongly suggest listening to Tiesto from 1999 to 2001 after that .. well.
Armin Van Buuren is a pathfinder for the genre. His weekly radio show A State Of Trance can be somewhat repetative at times, butI do listen to it religiously for the tons of new releases and bootlegs that I have never heard. I am a bit biased to Armin as he has been my fave for nearly a decade, He is solid as a DJ and as a producer and he doesn't suck as a person, which is always a nice attribute.
Ferry Corsten is a great DJ/producer to explore and to tune your ears from. He is always changing and morphing and I think he is not afraid to try new things.
Paul Van Dyk is the tightest there is. His productions are mind blowing and I like the vocals and story telling he does in his productions.
Who I have spoken of above are the tops in their genres, but there are soooo many more that are lesser known.
The list is endless. Even more importantly are the producers of the trance tracks of late. Trance went through a long rough patch. I think for the last eight months it has really taken off again.
MySpace is a great place to sample DJ sets, and producer tracks. Start off with a DJ page your know, like Armin's and then check out his friends pages and go from there!
Try not to let the haters get you down, there is a lot of distain for Trance. Make up your own mind and find out what gets you going.
Sorry for the long post.
I hope it's been a bit helpful! ;) |

Trance ranges from 136 to 142 bpms.
Nick Pilon is, as far as I know, is the most active trance producer/dj in montreal, he's got a residency at aria and posts on this forum. Dj Charlie also does trance, and will be playing with Nick shortly at aria |

+1
Nick is the best Trance DJ in Montréal right now and is getting bigger each months. You can listen to his show, Lost In Trance, on House-Pacifique.com and there is always a Trance All Night event each month @ ARIA including Nick and guests.
Charlie is also growing up :) |
