Honda are the best in terms of reliability, VW's are reliable but get a manual diesel.

so true.

my ex-ex (lol) boyfriend has a benz and he had more problems with his brand new SL than i had ever seen with a new car. ran smooth, very powerful, but all the little trinkets (windows, buttons, etc...) kept breaking. he used the lemon law and what did he do? he goes and gets the new CLS 500. so far no problems, and it's a beautiful car, but i wouldn't get one i don't think.

i used to diss lexus and be like, "oh it's japanese, bla bla bla...real luxury is german" clearly, i had no idea what i was talking about.

japanese cars are the best bang for the buck... if you just take care of it the usual way, it goes forever..lol

She may be a 91 with 197k miles on her, but she purrs like a kitten. 0-60 in 6.1 seconds, leather and the works.

Since I'm German, I will never ever buy a non-German car. German cars are the best imho.

You deserve to be hanged for that comment!

Anyway europeans dont really do automatics unless its designed to be super fast and sporty. And the passat isnt really (love the DSG in the Golf GTI though). If you cant be bothered to drive stick go with BMW. Their newer ones are wery reliable and the old ones are indestructable (my neigbours e32 7 series with over 500k on it and no breakdowns yet, which is suprising since he treats it like crap).
AS for the SL. Its no secret that the mercedes build quality dropped dramaticly since about 94, but over the last year i hear its getting good again (heard nothing bad about the new S class. Commendable since there is a lot of stuff in there that can go wrong). The current SL is a wonderful car but sadly it was designed under budget.

As for lexus, there are good cars but i refuse to pay that amount of money for a rebadged toyota.

i dont understand your reasoning. you refuse to pay for a car that will run like a champ past 100k miles? lol think about what you're saying. german cars are over-engineered, it's a simple fact. i watched my buddy give my car a tuneup and all the dumb little extra steps he had to take just to take my damn spark plugs off were ridiculous.

they are high maintenence and everyone knows that...even most german car owners will say that. but it's like an addiction to the status symbol.

lexus is toyota...so what? toyotas are the most reliable cars out there, and that, to me, is getting what you pay for...meaning, i'd rather spend the money for that, than the status symbol. and by the way, the luxury components of a lexus are just as sweet, if not sweeter, than a benz or beamer. and to be perfectly honest, the inside of the 3 and 5 series beamers are nothing to write home to mom about. the only bmw i thought was amazing, was the 7 series, and from what i've heard the 6 series is pimp too.

but still....the japanese know how to make a friggin comfortable car with all the toys and gagets u can think of...AND it'll outrun any german car without even breaking a sweat, as in live longer. sure, the german cars are powerful, and believe me, if i was loaded and could afford a couple of cars, i'm sure one of them would be a hardtop black 6 series.

but right now, the new IS series lexus is my favorite car on the road, and hopefully my next car. i'd like to have that car by the end of next year.

oh and btw, nut that's the exact car craig has (recent ex bf), only yours is waay shinier and prettier. good job on the upkeep. his paint was kinda crappy and faded, but that car is a soldier. lol that's what i called it....the "soooldja" :stongue:
