The worst form of torture is living in prison for 40 years.. I know guys who've done 2 years up in Canada, and they called it nothing short of a living hell.
Where does this impression come from that being in prison is somehow nice.. Its a horrible life, its a form of torture, and I for one would personally choose death than have to face 40 years in a prison...
People think straight, yes she's a horrible woman, but she will suffer for 40 years behind bars.. Try imagining that feeling of her first real night in prison knowing she has 40 years in that hell hole... Seriously, its a very sick situation, prison is HELL and anyone that thinks even 20 years is easy should really go visit a prison and see what its like.
40 years in prison = Hell ..... dying instead = easy way out...
It wouldn't even be a question, if I had to choose 40 yrs in prison or death, hand me a gun... |

Hell in cdn prisons........that is a new one. We toronto folk think it is a country club but if cdn jails are harsh, i'll take your word on it. |

She didn't get the death penalty, simple because of her "mental illness". She had stopped taking her medication (2 weeks I think it was?) before she committed the crime. Anyways, anyone declaring severe mental illness has a better chance than any other statement.
You got to ask yourself, about the death sentence. It goes both ways. I mean, most people, that actually committ these crimes, don't have a real desire to live anyway. In the andrea yates, case......look at what she has left......She took the lives of her 5 children, she lives, and apparently has always lived with a severely miserable mental illness... I can put money down, this woman wouldn't mind receiving the death sentence.....
People don't realize that the death sentence is almost like doing them a favor. Look at how they do it now days...... FIRST, you get put asleep, and THEN you get injected with the chemicals. So basically, its like being put to sleep. No pain, no suffering, nothing. So the way I look at it is, let the after life take care of them........
Tiesto, you want to punish that woman? Put her in solitary for life. No windows, no sounds, NOTHING. Mental punishment is by far, worse than any physical punishment. Losing all sense of sanity. Amazing how you're mind will begin to slowly change. No communication with anyone. No sound, what so ever, complete silence to the point, you WILL start hearing things. Your consciousness will begin to lose self control, and you slowly begin to enter a realm of spinning, anxiety, stress, mental pain, which then induces physical pain. Basically, you lose it, completely. Your mind becomes your worst enemy, and you are ABSOLUTELY in no control and in total misery. To the point of wanting to take your own life, however, it can't be done, even if you don't eat the food provided. The prison itself will tie you down, and feed you through needles. Your mind constantly reminds you, there is no way out. Its the closest thing to hell I can imagine. |

Thats what I meant, it was hell even up here, down in the states prison is much worse :)
Seriously, I totally agree with the anger, its very very disturbing.
I'll tell you a story, my oldest sister knew this lady from their little part of the neighbourhood. Well this lady and her husband went to their cabin with their 2 young children. The husband went out to the store, and when he came back the mother had drowned both her children in the bathtub...
Now its sick, its disturbing, it makes me want to hurt this lady badly. BUT, I know she'll get to spend a long life sitting in jail living with the torture of re-living what she did to her children. The torment and pain she will suffer can't be imagined....
Life and freedom is a wonderfull thing, take away freedom and it becomes hell. All the things you enjoy are taken away from you, how can that not be considered hell?
Death penalty is vengeance, state sponsored murder.. I am strongly against murdering murderers/rapist/etc... Let the ROT in jail and suffer for a LONG LONG time...
People always say these sick bastards should suffer, well there is no worse suffering than a long prison sentence.. |

Bravo, couldn't have said it better myself. But solitary for life is cruel and unusual punishment... That I couldn't agree with, its beyond punishment :D |

Thats why solitary is only a temporary punishment for those in prison. Its, in my opinion, worse than the death sentence. |

I'm sorry, I'm new here... I didn't know about your "argument"... but I don't need to hear it, I've heard them all, and they are all .
First of all, abortion is murder. It is, in no way, shape, or form, any different than what that woman did. Just because the government says its ok, doesn't mean it is.

well i dont care if u insult me....but your statement about God was bull...how is that God would want a woman who murdered her own children with torture to live....
AND NOT EVERYONE DESEREVES TO LIVE...thats horse ....
u think Hitler (even though i am German) desereved to live, or some guy that rapes and beats then kills a 9 year old innocent girl...imagine thats your daughter...keep the religous crap out of it...if God feels she should live then i WANT NO PART of that God... |
Think about it this way. God created us. Therefore if we are living it's cause He wants us to. God doesn't want us to hurt others, but he does want us to change. So its not right to kill people who have done bad things.

And for all the freaken liberals on this board who argue that the death penalty does no good...and that it wont help the dead kids...well your right it wont bring them back or do any good..but you know what...i might show other sick s who commit these sicko crimes not to do them or they will be dealt with harshly...and besides whoever thinks a woman who kills her 5 kids with torture and thinks she deserves to live is just as ing sick as her...children are sacred and even in prison hard criminlas will beat you and even kill you if they find out u raped or killed a child...thats how much they even hate it....
screw rights...kill the ing bitch slowly!!!!!!!! |
I don't think deterrance is particularly relevant in this case. Someone in Andrea Yates' condition will not be capable of sitting down and thinking "hmmm... let me think about what sorts of horrible punishments people who have committed similar crimes have received... oh yeah they killed andrea yates... I better not kill my kids then". She was mentally ill, I doubt she enjoyed killing her kids, and I doubt she was in a state of mind where she could have considered the consequences. Killing her would achieve absolutely nothing - I'd rather spend the money on a team of specialists to analyse her condition and come up with a way of dealing with it so in other cases such tragic outcomes can be prevented. |

Statistics have also shown that most deathrow inmates committed crimes of passion, therefore most of them didn't have time to think of the consequences.
Death penalty just isn't the deterrant that people want you to believe it is. Many crimes are commited out of passion/heat of the moment, and even pre-meditated murders often comes from minds of people who don't care about the consequences. |

HHHMMMM WASNT IT GOD..that flooded the earth during Noah's Ark to rid the world of all the ed up people and things that were going on...yes it was....and just for your information..MORE people have died in the name of God then for anything else in history.....
And it also depends on whether or not you beleive in a fairy tale of an old man in the sky who reins over us and judges are every action for which if we do wrong we have to beg for his forgiveness... |
