good to see they go a few runs on the board, Adelaide could see some big totals.

Agree we miss Simon Jones alot, Harmy is only half the cricketer away from home too. Still think it is all to play for but Eng will need alot a luck, carefully placed cricket ball under Glenn McGraths foot may help.

LOL at the rule changes post :D

I think we did ok 2nd innings, but we were simply left with too much to do from inept bowling. Hoggard hasn't fired in a while now, and harmison is so out of confidence. I think there's a lot of points to come out of this though:

we lack the dynamic captaincy of vaughan, the brains to set unusual fields, make unusual bowling changes & generally inspire.

Flintoff is not captaincy material. It's too much for him. Strauss captained fine last summer when freddie was injured, so I'd have kept him on, it must have dented his confidence when he needed it most against his worst enemy (warne)

Bell has improved, you can't deny that. He's still making some mistakes, but overall isn't too bad.

We miss simon jones. big time.

If Geraint Jones is a good enough batsman, play him as opener anyway, and drop cook who looks inept against bounce & pace, giving Read the chance to take the gloves at number 7.

Michael Holding said it on commentary: Batsmen make runs, bowlers win games, so WHY didn't we pick Panesar & Plunkett, 2 of our real good bowlers :conf:

Anyway, let's see what happens in Adelaide :)

yeah, more or less right.

I don't think Ponting should have made them follow-on. After spending a day in the heat its always a risk to send them straight back in, Chennai 2001 anyone? Give the bowlers half a day rest, smart move. There was still plenty of time, if they couldn't bowl England out again the focus shouldn't have gone onto Ponting "why didn't you make them follow on" but rather the bowlers "why couldn't you bowl them out in 2 days".

As for England, Panesar has to play in Adelaide. However (I think I'm somewhat against the grain here) but keep Harmison in the side. Ge'll learn from that and he won't choke again. Seeing you hear "he's underdone" about 1206 times a day, getting him out of the team won't help. Showing confidence in him is the right way to go. He's still an important part of that attack. Somewhere in there there needs to be a different paceman though, I think the attack as it is lacking something (dunno what though).

I think Ponting made the rigth decision. Instead of having to get 350 (which can be done, even by this England team) and then adding a few more on top of that, which coulda been done slowly and then Aust woulda had to come back in and get runs quickly to win - they had too big a target to even hope to get.

Hopefully you follow my logic there, but I think placing a 600 target instead of 350 really changes the approach of batting from the trailing side.

ps. Which of you Adelaide boys are going to the match?

I only scored tickets for day 2, but shall be a good day!!! :)

downside of it is that if harmison or hoggard or someone picked up 3 or 4 quick wickets, they could've ended up gaining this confidence they need & that could've changed the series. As it is, I don't know what changes if any we'll make for friday.

Ben, It's not a temporary lack of form, bar a couple of good days in the pakistan series last july/august, he hasn't done the job for a very long time, and we've been shown what's wrong here, it's an action problem where his front arm is falling away & he's not upright, nor are his legs pumping. Steve simply doesn't bowl enough, so he can't get into rhythm, a lot of this is due to the england policy of few warmups and resting test players from county games (look at stuart clark for why that's wrong) We have got to stand up & be counted, and Harmy needs to do this soon.

dude, take a banner or something :p

My cousins have some tickets, but I don't know which days they're going. My dad was going to go but he's doing the world cup in barbados instead.

fair enough. I knew his action sucked but didn't know he's been crap for a while.

No attendance for me this year, too busy. Unfortunately I'll be able to hear it from where i work so it'll be rubbing it in:sadgreen:

on the upside at least I'll be able to follow the scores. Theres a conference I was meant to go to on Sunday monday tuesday, if I had been going to that I couldn't

An Argie rooting for England :conf: that's a turn up for the books.

I'm a positive thinker, however I have the feeling it's going to be a whitewash the convincts will win the Ashes. Too much seems to be going wrong. I agree with Ian Freddie is not captaincy material.

Ah well. What do say when you see an Aussie? Two pint's of Stella and a bag of peanuts please. :stongue:
