No but if someone is wanting to just discuss something like ASOT, and not wanting a debate on if ASOT sucks, then people shouldn't come in and flame them all of the time. It's one thing if one person says something, and the rest just ignore them, it's another thing when a bunch of people get into a flame fest, where all they do is bicker and argue and criticize. It's the amount this happens, not that it wont happen or shouldn't happen. I mean if your discussing something you like with someone and some butts in on your conversation with smart ass remarks, in real life, would you like that? You would want the person to mind their own business. If they do it once, you just ignore them, let it pass you by. If they continue to do it, then there's a problem. And the later is what seems to happen more and more on here..it's not a one or two time thing, it happens almost everyday. |
You are missing the point. Ian was not flaming in that thread, he was offering a difference of opinion, and alternatives. We've already established that starting a flame war is not good under any circumstances, the argument here is that threads should be open for rellevant discussion. |

That's fine, difference of opinion is fine. Alternatives are fine, but not everyone is always wanting alternatives, because they just might be happy with what they like. If someone likes Armin or ASOT, there shouldn't be a problem with them liking Armin or ASOT. It's what they like, and they want to discuss it, not alternatives to it. Flaming is not. That's all. |

Come to think of it, I don't think I have EVER read a post by Spirit5. I dont' know who he is, I don't know what he listens to, and I have no idea whether I like him or not. All I know is that I see his name on here every day, and that he will have played a rather large role in the day that the wheel on my mouse breaks.

| Well I was going to go but Clovis responded. I don't care if you like me or not, quite frankly. I do like to be respected though....I don't ask for people to like me. |

Well why are you arguing Purple's point of view then? That an ASOT thread shoiuld ONLY discuss that ASOT episode, the tracks within it, and should ONLY consist of opinions that praise the episode?
Do you realise how boring this forum would be if every thread was only allowed to discuss a narrowly defined subject as per its title and the wishes of the thread starter?
I agree that bashing people for liking something is low (I have been guilty of that in te past aswell), but this is a forum, and the purpose of a forum is to discuss things. People will have a difference of opinion, it comes down to whether or not you can accept that. There will always be people flaming and always be sarcastic remarks. Take them in jest, laugh at them, and live with it. |

| I'm not saying don't criticize or don't have difference of opinions. But just respect each other's tastes (even if you don't like it) and not getting into debates all of the time when the threads aren't always made for it. People aren't always asking for alternatives to stuff they like, they might just be happy with (right now) stuff they like, and eventually they will grow out of it. Some people get a rise out of others and think it's funny, but that's just immature. It's the whole Ishkur thing that pisses me off, the attitude that my tastes are better than yours, and that people can't just like what they like and discuss it. It's not the debate or criticizism, as much as it's the amount of it and the way that it comes across. It's similar to what Nrg2Nfinit mentioned. Why can't people just like what they like? That's all. |

| I think Spirit5 is very correct in what he is saying. It's a different think to have an ASOT thread with people reviewing the whole think(be it praise or criticism), to an ASOT thread with maniac flame-starters who bash everyone who just likes ASOT. This is very true. |

Whatever, i'm just trying to emphasize respect, and for a little more conscientiousness when it comes to discussion and debate. I guess because I've been teased, ridiculed and harrased in the past (in real life and online), so I have stronger feelings about this. |

Yeah exactly thats what I am saying. It's disrespectful when people come in and start bashing each other and the thread starter because they don't like something. That's not the same thing as a civil debate or intelligent discussion about something, or even a difference of opinion or criticizism. It's just plain disrespect and immaturity. And this is what I am talking about. |

You know I've been on several forums, and I've gotten into my share of flame wars, heated discussions and all out rages...and I've found the best thing you can do is laugh something off.
Humor is the greatest cure for bitter dissagreements, I've gotten out of many an argument by turning it into a joke. On the internet your sense of humor will go a longer way than any debating or arguing skills... |
