Wow, you're taking an interesting subject and completely muddling it up with your obvious lack of research. There's a wealth of information here about EDM (do you know what that means?) culture. However, in order for us to help you, you're going to have to show us you yourself have some knowledge about trance in New York. We're not writing your paper for you.
I'd start with the books already recommended. If that's too much work, then select another topic as other others have suggested. |

I might be wrong in saying this, but may be you should consider writing a paper on some other subject. (or may be whoever will read your paper on the current subject wont know the difference either way and you still might get a good grade.) You really sound like you don't know about the culture. No offence , but you'd have to indeed read up a lot of books & hit a number of parties in order to accurately write that paper.
Its a journey, not a destination. (ColorDancer sig) |

| Trance_Sauce, I think you did the right thing by choosing not to reply to the responses to your post-they were more insulting rather than helpful obviously. According to these idiots who responded to you, a person does not have the right to ask a random question-he has to make sure he chooses the right phrases, words etc for their satisfaction. I understand that besides the books and sites you could research, maybe you chose this site for some 'first-hand' information which is usually more truthful than the info you may find in a book, but this shows you the kind of depressed people you are dealing with here. They choose to insult instead of help-welcome to the NYC TA board! there are good people here but also quite a few who sit around waiting for someone to type a word or phrase that is disagreeable to them so they could let out their aggression. ;) |

Will you just die.
Seriously, why do you come here if you have such contempt for the people who use this board? Go back to the GU board where no one likes you either.
P.S. Thanks for letting me get out my aggression. You're one of the few people that posts on here that I truly can't stand, so when you post dumb like this (and most of your other posts), I can get it all out since 99% of others on here are cool people, or at the least, tolerable. |

Groundhog Boy--quite the Biggest Loser I've ever known, no understatement. this guy wakes up with the TA board at his fingertips. within 2 seconds of me posting a thread, he's already typed a reply. it's like he watches Every single thread on this board and reads every reply as they're typed.
have you no life, you fkg moron? |

Dude, I'm at work on a Saturday night, what do you expect? All that it takes is hitting refresh when I'm switching between other windows to see when someone's responded. And the first response was 6 minutes, this one is 15. That's hardly 2 seconds.
It's really funny that you think I do nothing else, considering most people on this board see me out all the time and know what I do for a living. |

What the is this thread?
First off, there is no trance culture in NYC, if you new anything about the history of the dance scene in NYC, it would start with disco and house music, and is primarily the scene that exists here.
| quote: | | Everyone knows that trance culture is about 2 things: one the beat and two spending money in pursuit of pleasure. |
Sigh... youre a tool.
| quote: | | I could broaden the paper to club culture but i'd like to stick to electro as it is a newer genre and unexplored in sociology and anthropology. I'm refering specifically then to raves and the section of the clubs devoted to trance. In any case does anyone have anything to say about the direction of this new phenomenon? |
Ok, youre categorizing electro with raves and trance... how? All three are separate entities to themselves. Electro being a sub-genre, Raves being a type of party, and Trance being a main genre.
| quote: | | Will trance music die out or will people continue to choose electronica to enlighten their evening? |
Who knows, depends on where you are in the US - if youre in NYC, trance will never be the main attraction.
| quote: | | Ohh, and perhaps my response on common club behavior was incorrect... trance culture is then about the beat alone and not money. |
Youre a ing idiot. You clearly know nothing about the scene and are coming onto a board with people who live the scene, acting like you know what youre talking about. The beat? The beat is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the EDM scene, not just trance. The beat doesnt make the people come to shows, or make people dance. The beat is just a piece of the puzzle. There a melody, bassline, a rhythm, and compositional intricacies which your incredibly ignorant self has no comprehension of.
| quote: | | The artists may make the sounds but what is consistant in every song is a beat. Some people listen to lyrics to find meaning but there is mostly an absense of them in trance. So I guess my paper is about beats, but you must admit that electronica has the most bass out all other musics... excepting perhaps drum and bass. |
Beat and bass are two different things, congrats on generalizing more things into the same family. |

No, we just retard people that register on this forum for the sole basis to question a scene they have no comprehension of, and than have the balls to act like they are all knowing on the subject.
The anti-Scoratic Method doesnt work. |
