Im sure Tony de Vit and PvD played it too back then

I have a PVD set on casette tape from 92, he most certainly played electro and lots of techno, though both genres have evolved since then.

yup... and Larry Tee and John Starlight and a bunch of others brought it back in the late 90s with the "electroclash" sound

electro did exist in the late 80s, it was underground and seldom heard outside of the club scene.

well, looking back on it now, we call it electro cos sure, the "electro" nowadays is based soley on the fun and sometimes dark vibe of that synthpop, or pop, or whatever u wanna call it in the 80s... i mean i wasnt around then in the clubs, nor was anyone here i think, but i doubt they were calling it "electro" at the time... not ripping on you or anyone, just ripping on how people ON EACH OTHER on this board god forbid something they say is not in-line, when in reality, half the people on the board just THINK they know the answer's to all there is to know about life, but really don't... some of you need shrinks

I dont at all claim to know everything, but I have heard stuff from back then. I hardly know as much as others here, but I like to think that I know alittle above-average. :p

The only thing that bothered me was someone registering here, and questioning a scene that they clearly know nothing about... but talking as if they are the mighty and all knowing.

If people are ignorant then they should be educated not ripped, I always saw the trance culture has having alot of love, its a shame thats dying too.

amen.... and about Depeche Mode... i agree with you... i would say, looking back on it now, we say "oh yeah, Depeche Mode sparked the 'electro' sound", or tek's mention of the Afrikaa Bambataa song.... but back at a Depeche Mode or Afrikaa gig in the 80s, people weren't praising their "electro" sound, it just wasn't a word then, and thats what im saying... for the people on TA to just go buckwild on some dude (who obviously needs some education in styles and the scene in general) because THEY think "electro" was big in the 80s, they need some education of their own

fair enough, but others approached him helpingly with sources and possible ways to reevaluate his thesis... and other people, like always on NYTA, used him as their way to get their daily agression out.. haha im done... im sure a bunch of people will disagree with my views on electro, but in the end, its all a matter of perspective on the issue... is it the nomenclature of it that defines it, or the sound (which later was named electro)? guess it can go either way, so disregard my previous posts as THE absolute truth, in the end, it's all up to someones perspective :)

youre right, the TERM "Electro" wasnt created in the 80s.. but that sound sure was created in that decade.

:D
