I fully support this law. In fact, I think this law did not go far enough. I think dutch law should require all women to wear only bathing suits or underwear, for security reasons of course, after all no one can trust a women these days!

If you are too thick-headed to realize, that was sarcasm, and no i don't really support this law.

Stupid law. I hope they're banning wearing crosses, yarmulkes, and other religious symbols. If women choose to wear them, go ahead and let them wear them.

And actually, Purple's pretty much on target for once. Every once in awhile a blind squirrel finds a nut.

The city of Utrecht has cut some welfare benefits to unemployed women who insist on wearing burqas to job interviews. The city claimed the women were using the burqa to avoid working, since they knew they would not be hired.

I think that was about not wearing head scarves if you wanted to receive unemployment benefits... Which is almost as insane.

I don't think thats insane. I would newer hire someone who keeps her face covered all the time no matter what the job demands are even if that person is the most qualified one for that job. And if the stupid determination to wear a headscarf is the only thing preventing you from working then, well take it off and get your ass to work or stop relying on the government to support your sorry ass.

Thats ridiculous! Women wearing bathing suits can't be accurately identified. They shouldn't be allowed to wear anything at all!

this is amazing, good netherlands!

There's so many other things that should be restricted, there's a limit to reasonable accomodation!!

You are a blind squirrel not me. If you are not than answere what does this means:

Guy 1: What have you learnt from your past relationships?

Guy 2: 'let me have a present will never become past'

Politicians get dumber because of stress as election day approaches. It is only normal that some of them choose to make such decisions out of desperation. They don't know any better. Actually they do but the better does not always lead to victory.

Giving lower unemployment to women who wear burqas to job interviews would be the same thing as giving lower unemployment to men who wear earrings/have tattoos.

You are aware that this actually happens though? For example, the police here in vancouver will not hire anyone that has tatoos that are visible.

Oh common.. men wearing tattos or earning is a hel lot more different than women wearing burqas.. how can you guys compare it..

Burqa is relegion, culture, beliefs.. they wear it for respect, with respect..

Tatooes and earings are fashion/hobby/not-so-important thing..they wear it to make a statement or stand out... to be/look cool..

You guys need to talk to a muslim women and ask her what Burqa means to her..

taking away this right is nothing less than stripping a girl naked if you are a bit conservative muslim..

I don't think so. There is quite a bit of "culture, beliefs" associated with tattoos and earrings in some circles. Remember cultural experiences are relative and tattoos and earrings can be appreciated as much as religion and other cultural beliefs. Religion is not necessarily special as an experience. A lot of people can have the same experiences religion provides with other things. So in that sense i do believe it's comparable.

Also, last i checked everyone is referring to the "hypocrisy" behind banning one clothing article and not others. This is an example of other things that are banned because they are not socially acceptable in certain contexts.
