"Ferry Corsten killed it"

Before Lisa Loo has a fit and starts back flipping to an oblivion, let me explain first. This is kind of an off shoot from the Tiesto thread I started and how Claude hughes says trance is brutal.
There are many comments thrown around like "trance is dead and Ferry Corsten killed it" (this forum, other forums, sigs, etc.). Many in the industry agree with this as well. What made me start this is also that there is a new track by an artist named Kondencuotas Pienas. By coincedence the track is called, "Ferry Corsten killed it". Now I enjoyed some of the older tracks by Ferry like his remix of Somebody and more. His new album seemed alright I guess. His set from Hyperstate(?) from 2001 was a classic. I mean he may have some alright tracks like Punk and many more like that Rock your body track (not me)or whatever it's called. But those two tracks and many more by him are not trance by any stretch. Its called synth-pop. There are some famous trance producers (I'm not going to say their names) who also believe that he is one of the reasons for the slight downfall of trance, considering how he blew up around the same time. So I was just wondering is this a general consensus? I've personally heard some producers say this and now a track by that title is released.

If i had a pound for every time i heard 'Trance is dead' i'd be a very rich man. It's still alive, its just evolved into a new sound, which it will do for the forseeable future.
All that changes is the DJ's/Producers name on the end of the sentance, 'Trance is dead because killed it'.

Interesting. I've never made the connection.
While some of his tracks are very commercial and synth-pop-esque, I think that he is one of the few Dj's that are keeping trance ALIVE. If you go to see Ferry, you go to hear trance - and almost 90% of the time that's what you'll get - or a electro-ish fusion of his own design.
I mean, according to some threads from earlier in the week, even Tiesto (the accused "master of cheese") isn't playing trance as much.
Hypothetical question - What percentage of "trance" djs can you trust to play a set of complete trance?
Do you have a link to a sample? I'd like to hear it. |

I totally agree with you. I mean PVD, AVB, Tiesto, trance or not- they are some variation or dose of it and continue to pack events more than any other DJs. It is still very much alive (although not the same) with even new blood like SVD making their mark and new producers making way (such as Frase:toocool: ) |

So, you're claiming that people in the industry are pitting the decline of trance's popularity on the back of Ferry Corsten???
That's the BIGGEST crock of I've ever heard of.
Sorry, but Ferry didnt invent trance, nor did he kill it. Trance is still around, but not as 'popular' or mass produced as before. Where are all the other acts/producers/DJ's that used to be huge 4 yrs ago? Why aren't they taking some of the 'blame'? Why is there even a need to have a scapegoat at all?
I dont think anyone is to blame. Fads/interests change, including DJ's styles, and there's no way one DJ can have THAT much effect on anything like this claim. |

Well there are people who say that in the industry, there is a track by the name of that, and there are many fans of trance that believe that. That's their opinion and I wouldn't call it "crock of " because they could say that about your opinion. It's an opinion....i agree about the scape goat stuff but I think the reason why some say it is so, is because trance had a certain style and sound (like all music)and when Ferry blew up and started releasing tracks, some of it wasn't trance at all but got coined as trance for some reason. And remember I didn't say these people are necessarily right, I just think it is interesting. |

The only people to blame for "the death of trance" are the people who keep saying its dead. |
