Its still legal here....
and for the most part I only download mixes..mixes that for the most part would never see a cd store/record store or whatever store that sells music.
ive bought the odd cd over the last couple years and vinyl here and there, paid to see shows . I think Im doing alright to support them, so if I download a thing or two here its no big deal. |

ever since i started djing on a more consistent basis, I buy my tracks now. It made me respect the people creating the music a whole lot more.
beatport is top notch. |

I know of an artist who sold 1 million copies of a track a few years ago and made about 10 grand. I know of another artist who sold a million copies of a track in 1989 and made $1 million off of it.
Big difference here.
And most producers of EDM do not perform. Sure the sander van doorns and the tiestos of the world get bigger and bigger while the makers of the tracks they are playing have their tracks stolen while they stay home.
I just cant believe all the justifications people are giving for stealing. But hey, if that allows you to sleep at night then so be it.
i buy my music, software and movies and will continue to do so. If i want variety without paying then i'll download an essential mix episode or ASOT and enjoy that since it's somewhat public domain. |

a big problem also is the fact that a lot of the downloaded EDM tracks are hot off sets and not even released.. and downloading is the only way to get your hands on them.. and in a couple of weeks/months, when you get tired of the track, it finally gets released and you have no will to pay for it and listen to it anymore..
just my 2c. :) |

It is not illegal to download music. Therefore your usage of the word stealing does not apply in this context.
I sleep well, generally I set up a couple songs i've downloaded over the course of the day and get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep.
This is about choice for me, I live in a country where I can choose to download music for free or pay for it, i choose free. |

First of all let me say that I buy all my CD's as I am a bit of an audiophile and appreciate the much better quality over compressed files like MP3.
However, how many of you remember tape decks? Copying music is nothing new and back in the 1980's everyone was copying albums from each other as well! (On cassete decks.)
So what's the deal? Greedy music industry or consumers fed up with overpriced CD's?
I can't help but have some suspicion towards the music industry and their greed. |

not really the point. Its still legal. And I will take advantage of this opportunity, as many will until it is not. And to call out people as being in some way morally distorted because we do this, is false. |

What's heavier, a pound of bricks or a pound of feathers? I don't get the point you are making, they each sold 1 million copies but the guy today makes less money, how is that downloading's fault? Sounds like the record company is keeping more profits today by your example. |
