im 100% sure im going for torq now its just a matter of when i finish paying off my djm800 (ie february is the last payment), then its a question of what to buy in what order...Focusrite Saffire, M-Audio Torq, or Behringer Truth Monitors. im getting all 3 but my income only permits these sort of expenses once a month so i might end up having to wait. but anyways, i read the Torq manual because im that sort of gear junkie and it was just the final selling point, it seems loaded with great stuff and the torq dj forums are indicating that the majority of hte kinks have been worked out through software patches. if you want to know about rewire its in the manual so i suggest reading that...chapter 6 i think. everyone can expect a big review post once i get torq though ;)

Yeah man I think I'm gonna jump on this in the next few days as well. I don't have Ableton or anything, but I'll let you guys know when/if I go for it.

One quick question, maybe I missed it earlier in the thread. I like using the auto cue on the 800 mk2s. Does Torq recognize the auto cue function and set to the first beat?

from what i understand most functions on the cdjs such as builtin effects hot cues, auto cue master tempo etc are rendered useless you have to do all that within the torq software. kinda sucks but its understandable and especially considering the tradeoff you get for freedom of expression through the musical capabilities the software has. doesnt compare to ableton however, i feel like they're 2 very different ways to dj, which is why i get the feeling they might work really well together. m-audio even specifically designed the rewire implementation in the synchroscience software specificially for ableton. this really appeals to me.

by the way, so as not to waste space with a 1-post thread, can anyone PM me about switching over to ableton? im an ableton user but im having a hard time letting go of cdjs and going exclusive. if anyone has opinions, personal stories, whatever please let me know as this will influence the better part of my djing career :)

Actually, SOME of the features on the CDJ's still work great with Torq, as the timecode picks them up just fine:

1. Hot cues
2. Loops
3. Any sort of pitch control, obviously.

Things that DON'T work:

1. Auto-cue! Nope, the CDJ will find the start of the timecode just fine, but Torq itself doesn't align the very first beat of a track with the very beginning of the timecode. So it's Torq that really needs Auto-Cue, as well as the CDJ.

2. Master tempo - just messes up the timecode, which doesn't really do you any good. Torq has it's own master-tempo/key lock feature.

3. BPM display/timedisplay... obviously the CDJ is only playing timecode, has no idea about the track itself.

4. Wave display. You have to look at the display in Torq for this.

5. Any effects.

As for ableton integration, I'm not sure I get it just yet...

1. Torq doesn't support rewire when you use timecode control discs. You would therefore have to use Torq in standalone (ala Traktor) mode, and if you are going to do that, why not just do everything in Ableton anyway?

2. Even if Torq's rewire support does get enabled globally, syncronization between Torq and Ableton will always be a little off. If you want to just use ableton for launching samples, theres a built-in sampler in Torq. If you are playing tracks in Ableton, why not just use Ableton exclusively?

So for me it doesn't really make much sense. If you want to go the Ableton route, then just go that route. If you want a DJ deck feel, than stick with CDJ's/Vinyl TT's/Torq/etc.

Another quick question. Can you sort your files by bpm and/or harmonic?

If you're takling about Serato then yes, you can.

It doesn't have a seperate 'key' column, but if you use Rapid Evolution to write the key into your IDv3 tags then it writes it to the 'comment' column, which Serato has. ;)

Good to know, but I actually meant Torq. Sorry for the confusion.

Yep, Torq has a 'Key' column as well, so you can keep your entire database sorted by key

very nice to have

I actually just prefix my track names with the key, so I can sort based on trackname and it sorts by key. Kind of limits you from sorting tracks by filename, but the key will be carried over from application to application.

Is torq worth buying for turntables? I do agree with you spawn on many points, but have there been a fair amount of patches to render many of the software bugs? I really wanna get it over serato for its more pervasive software abilities. I need a laptop first as well...

Ryan0751
I have been pretty happy with it. They seem to be fixing the bugs fairly quickly, and it offers a lot of functionality for the price.

If you are looking for something to use out in clubs immediately, then serato would be the better choice at this point. (for proven stability)
