Why go Software over Hardware?? (pg. 6)

One reason not to go software is this. this is the email I just sent to Native instruments.
| quote: | | I decided to try to install komplete 4 today. I had previously had komplete 3 then was sent the upgrade (thanks very much) I installed absynth 4 and fm8 out of the upgrade (also massive which was seperate) but left the rest because of hard disk space. I got an external drive for christmas so i decided to try to install the whole thing. I uninstalled komplete 3 then tried to install komplete 4. It took its usuall 40 minutes then hung at "updating system configuration" OK i remembered something similar happened with komplete 3. I uninstalled kore and all the other NI stuff I had and tried again. Same thing. I was worried now, so I tried just taking the CD out and reinserting it. Some prompts came up and i clicked continue a few times. It eventually told me it was installed. I then installed the libraries. So I ran the service center to activate everything and what do I discover? It says Kompakt and intakt are still installed, and it was listing them under Komplete 4! This may have something to do with the problem because now (after two more attempts and a whole boxing day sitting here screwing around with the thing!) I cannot activate Reaktor, Kontakt guitar rig or b4. Its christmas, I'm trying to work, I'm very frustrated. this has gone beyond a joke, this is the third or fourth time I've spoken to you guys about your products. They're good products once they're installed but I'm way fed up of trying to install them. YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER. I would like assistance and I'm hoping I won't have to wait long for it, because frankly, I'm really annoyed that I've spent about 5 hours now trying to install your products and why? because of your activation system which gives no one but you ANY benefit! |
Also Krispy's been a little strange lately, has he stopped taking his pills? Coz he also wrote a thread asking "how to get teh pro sound" ???? What? |

If someone goes out and buys a hardware VA synth and feels it sounds better than software synths, then they have made the right choice. Placebo or not, it's the right choice for them.
I hated software synths, got a Virus and I think it sounds much better. I have to give credit to Adamtrance though because that Z3ta+ soundset is good. Anyway, I get confused about why my Virus sounds better (to me) and is easier to coax good sounds out of (for me). Because yeah, it is software at the end of the day but I can only go by what my ears tell me.
This argument is becoming a lot like the one on religion, which I found interesting for a short while but it soon became pointless and incredibly boring.
So now I'm gonna STFU and continue enjoying my hardware, while you guys enjoy whatever it is that you enjoy. :) |

Indeed, and evidently he's discovered how to get that "pro sound" - expensive hardware! :stongue:
I think we're just witnessing a classic case of self-delusion. He wants to believe that there's an easy way into the big leagues so he's convinced himself that he's found it. (What are the big leagues you ask? Who the hell knows, that's kind of the point!)

You guys are like a bunch of vultures waiting for someone to say something out of place so you can peck at their brains.
I bet it makes you all feel real big that you spend a ridiculous number of pages slating someone when in actual fact by replying in the way that you do, you are being immature yourself.
"I think we're just witnessing a classic case of self-delusion."
You wanna be all psychological..
One of the benefits of slating others is that you all indirectly kiss each others asses, become a team and stop forming opinions of your own. This way, in the future when you say something dumb, your vulture friends will be right there to bail you out.
I realised I was like this a long time ago on this forum and it's a hard habit to break, but at least I try. I was more obvious but it's the same thing. |

So the fact that someone's wrong has nothing to do with anything, we just like being mean?
Please. |

yes people are often like that around here and its wrong and your points are dead true, but! In Krispys case, he's now posted two really daft things, which contradict a lot of what a lot of us believe (that you can make great music with very little)and hes taking up good forum space starting arguments. TO say that hardware always beats software is ridiculous and its also quite immature, hes basically getting into a "my toys better than yours" argument, worse hes not even giving any evidence. Also the things hes saying are just really dumb. Everyone knows that most hardware isn't analogue, or if it is its irrelevant because you have to go digital at one point or another even if only pressing onto a CD! I dunno what the guys got but I doubt its pure analogue. If what he meant was, "its a good idea to throw a guitar distortion pedal on your leads, run your pads through a hardware reverb, put your basses through guitar amp simulators" then fine! I agree for distortion, nothing can match hardware. I'm a guitarist I know! But for pure waveforms (which it sounds like is what hes talking about) software is exactly the same as digital hardware. Truth be told, either hes gone nuts or hes playing one huge joke on us all to expose how silly we can all be. I hope its the latter. |

Rather ironic target you picked for such a comment, considering I'm well known on several of these forums as one of the most argumentative members.
I don't really give a flying what anybody else thinks - I care about the truth, nothing more, nothing less. I simply won't stand idly by while someone - anyone - spouts off pseudoscientific bull to a captive audience that might not *always* know better.
Speaking of psychology, I think there's a fairly standard term for your own diatribe: "projection". |

Ach, I did think you guys were going on a bit at KK. Because he was outnumbered and I prefer hardware over software I thought I'd back him up. As usual I post in far too intense a manner.
I hate arguing here and I try so hard not to but I always seem to end up doing it. Now I've called about 8 people immature ass-kissing vultures... clever.
See I always know where I go wrong in hindsight, I think God missed me out when he created foresight! I'm not going to wallow in self-pity though, it, I'll just have to keep working at it. This thread has had everything lol, it's like a counselling session or something now. :)
Sorry for going a bit over the top guys.
I still think hardware rules though. :p |

| Whatever, no point in arguing anymore. You guys can have your own opinions, I wish you all best of luck to get the sound you want. |

My stance on this. Sure software is great and its very flexible, but after having owned a number of analog synths. For me software isnt there yet, yeah sure some people make some great tracks using software, my response to that is "if they only had some good analog stuff". For me another huge leap over software is the interface nothing beats moving the sliders on a jupiter 8.
10 years from now my opinion prolly will change, but not today. Soft synths especially sound garbage at high resonance. |
