My night was realy messed up, i came to the club at like 11 and couldnt get in cuz my friend was way to drunk, had to sell tickets and all that bull. We had to drive all the way back to richmond hill to take him home, then come back to the club again. Basicly entered at 2:30... for free somehow, i love when that happens. lol.
All i gotta say is YAHEL WAS CRAP...
Mark S1 was WAY WAY WAY better...
I didnt get to hear that much of yahel, maybe an hour or so, but from wat i heard it wasnt very good. Dont get me wrong i was going nuts right up at the front but the set it self was lacking a few things such as direction and flow. And what was with all the breakdowns ... too much. I expected psytrance... and i only got to hear it in the last 2 tracks. I thought he was starting to get good, but then he just left.
To my pleasent surprise mark S1 played an amazing prog house set. It was jus amazing. I only heard one problem with the mixing, otherwise it kept me jumping around right up till close.. totaly sober.
good night, but i expected ALOT more from Yahel... Im happy that Mark S1 saved the night for me.
ps. i actualy liked the venue. it has a zone feel to it
i feel like i need to stop listening to quality music at home, to realy be blown away by a set at a club |
Thanks for your (and everyone else's) compliments (it's great to know that people are listening so closely, and hey that mix was only off for like 3 seconds so gimme some slack... the rest were tight). Mostly though I want to thank you all for coming out to hear Yahel and myself at our X-Mas Eve/end of Chanukah Party. We really appreciate it!
I just read through the thread and wanted to make a few comments about your words, the party, and Yahel's set.
Firstly I agree that the venue sucked for this party. It was way too small and hot (you would expect a club that has been open for 12 years to have an aggressive air condition unit by now...). I couldn't even get Yahel some Red Bull to mix with his Vodka at 1:30am or his girl a bottle of water at 4am as there were none of either left. People were smoking everywhere and I couldn't stop sweating...
Last year we only had 500 people at the party so we expected around the same amount this year. Fluid can even hold 750 comfortably but there were over 900 people inside there this year (not to mention many that didn't get in) which was the main problem.
As for Yahel's set I will also agree that he played better sets last year at both State Theatre and the Guvernment. BUT for those of you who weren't in front of the booth yelling "YALLA BALAGAN" I have one thing to explain that will answer the question WHY? Especially since this guy is one of the top 30 DJs in the world (and top 10 for trance), and has produced 10 albums of amazing trance (whatever type you want to classify it as).
I was in the booth and let me tell you that I still can't believe no cds skipped even once (those CDJs earned lots of credit with me that night) as people were basically pounding on them while chanting. These people were so in Yahel's face that I knew what each of them had for breakfast a week ago. That in conjunction with the dozens of whacked out guys and girls who had to get either a picture, an autograph or a request for butterfly or whatever in THAT MINUTE while Yahel was trying to think, program or mix is your answer. I would like to see any dj focus on a mind-blowing set of muzik under those conditions... IMPOSSIBLE! (unless you are as messed up as these people were).
I will also admit that 70% of these people were Israelis... so to those people I must say thanks allot for nothing. I mean yes you came to support an artist from your country, but if you want to support him let him focus on and do his thing right for everyone... Show your love after his set in a civilized way or cheer him on from the dance floor not on top of his cd case. I myself lived in Israel for 8 years and in Hebrew there is a word and a term to describe this behaviour: it's called acting like an "ARS" (means poisonous fish or something - no joke). But it was not only Israelis and I will stop there.
So for the disappointed TAs... please give Yahel a break this time. And for the buzz killers... learn how to party and enjoy muzik the right way. I still think the 2nd half of Yahel's set was amazing (I guess he started coping with the "BALLAGAN" which by the way means mess in Hebrew).
I still thought the party was great and I know for a fact that some people had the time of their life that night and made a proper ballagan.
As for all the TAs reading this who didn't have so much fun due to the unexpected huge crowd I would like to offer some compensation...
Firstly I have a copy of some of the trax from Yahel's upcoming cd "Superset II" (to be released in March 2007) and he OKed me to give you guys a little taste... and secondly I would like to bring Yahel back to a suitable venue next year (like Guvernment or Sonic or The Docks or Republik) and offer you 50 free tickets to give Yahel's live set another listen. So please send me your e-mail to [email protected]
And that includes all you well behaved, cool non-ARS Israelis who love Yahel's creations.
Thanks again for coming out and happy new year from Yahel and me!!!

If what you have at home is better than what you are hearing from a live DJ you should switch the DJs you go out to hear... I have been blown away many times this year!

| it was pretty crowded and lots of pushing in front, but i still stayed there while most of my friends remained in the centre/back.. yea, its pretty rude shoving hands in the djs face. i know i'd be pissed if i was the dj. as for the music, Yahel didn't disappoint me a bit and Mark played a very nice set. i'll take this opportunity to thank Mark again for everything (i had to be one of those s to ask for a pic haha), but politely and patiently |

Does this apply to all TAs, or just the ones who whined a lot? |
