I smoked for 10 years and the 14th January will be my 2 year anniversary of being a non-smoker.
Giving up smoking was the hardest thing I have ever done. I lost my short-term memory for six months, so much so that it had a massively negative impact on my business life (I learnt to write EVERYTHING down) and I was very sick for that period of time too, a perpetual cold despite looking after myself; I didn't get the health benefits that the literature promised and to be honest, halfway through I felt like I wanted to scream, "Why didn't you tell me it was going to be this hard!". But, and I am being totally honest here, it was the most pride-inducing thing I have ever done, even more than moving to Canada on my own.
I suppose what I am saying is, there is no better feeling than accomplishing something that you perceived to be almost impossible.
I wish you all the strength, support and success in the world with this.

| the patch worked well for me. was surprised how little i craved. it may have been just a mental thing, but it was good enough for me. maybe just patch up on those times you are going somewhere you think that you will feel desire |

I chewed flavored toothpicks incessantly for 8 months when I quit smoking.
I don't think I would have been able to last without them filling the void of not having a cigarette in my mouth. |

Noone can stop the craving because nicotine is a parasite in your stomach. Only the strong will can defeat it.
Good luck to everyone :) |

Jesus Christ, Marcin...sometimes the that comes outta your mouth..err..fingers is ing unbelievable. :haha:
I quit smoking in November after 10 years, and it was surprisingly easy.
The main thing was recognizing how pathetic it was that I let myself become a slave to such an unhealthy, disgusting habit.
I smoked mostly out of boredom, so breaking the habit was most important for me. Once I did that, I smoked a lot less (duh), and made my eventual termination a lot easier.
Smelling other smokers really helped (and still helps) too. They stink to the point of nausea, and I find it really irritating. I just tell myself "That's what YOU smelled like! Ew gross! YOU'RE gross!!" Amazing how much that helps, lol.
I dunno...you REALLY have to want to do it, because aside from the physical addiction...it's all in your head.
It's also good to acknowledge your cravings when you have them, instead of ignoring or denying it. The feeling only lasts a couple minutes, and the sooner you accept it's there, the sooner it goes away.
Drink LOTS of water!
Good luck man, you can do it. |

That cuz most drugs aren't physically addictive (well except heroin, cocaine, and the like), and nicotine is. |
