you will have to battle with me for an apt. I am going to be looking soon for a place on the eastside/shorewood. Brady St. Area is nice but I need a change, too much temptation around here to drink all the time.
Don't think I will make it out to Mantra, havn't really been in the mood to go out at all lately partly because I am broke and partly because I have just been tired all the time :-/. |

You know, the worst part of all this is that nothing in Milwaukee is going to change - if anything, things will only get worse.
With less slots open, and almost every club that remains having "resident" DJ's (who play some of the worst music I've ever heard), it seems as though the folks sticking around in the scene are making it their business to keep others out.
Pretty sad when it's easier for me to book gigs in Chicago than Milwaukee. |

My sentiments exactly. The Milwaukee scene is retarded, and I've basically given up my efforts to work my way in. |

We were at Three one night, and one of the barbacks (maybe the owner - he's the gay dude, right?) asked me to bring in a demo.
I brought it in the next time we were there, he gave it the "Cool, thanks," and two minutes later I saw him through it in the trash behind the bar.
Many friends have had similar experiences. |

:haha:
Are you ing serious?
Why would he even ask you to bring one? |

That's what I wondered myself. Needless to say, Myra, Dustin, and I finished out drinks and took the off. |

i've actually had a solid experience handing out demos around the area. well, i've only handed an older demo to one establishment. alright i'm lazy. the point is i handed it to him, left my number, shook his hand etc. two weeks later i randomly stop in with a couple of out-of-town friends. the owner recognizes me, "oh you're nate right??" "yeah, did you get a chance to check out the demo??" "i just got around to listening to it. i loved it. i'll definitely get a hold of you." then, get this, the bouncer says "we usually don't allow people with white shoes to come in" but the owner stopped him and said we were allowed to because my friends were with me. :eyes:
...and then he never called back. and then my phone got disconnected. so.. yeah, go figure. |

I forget what the restaurant was that I saw downtown, but there was a restaurant/lounge that looked really cool and Myra said they occasionally had parties there - We need to find out how we can get it for a night and have a TA shindig in Mil town.
And yeah, as far as my posts on MN go, take them with a grain of salt. The only reason I ever head over there is to see just how deluded those folks are - and it's pretty bad ;)
Their feathers ruffle easily :p |

None at Josh what-so-ever. He's one of the few Milwaukee folks that I think is actually making a HUGE effort to work with the limited resources he has.
But many of the others on that forum... yikes. |

Vucciria - trendy little pizza/gelato place on Brady Street. when i was there a few years ago i was talking to the bartender about how they had DJs play upstairs on Sunday nights.
Brady St area actually has a lot of cool little bars/clubs that i think would be really cool to play at... and most places attract a swankier artistic/modern/trendy crowd, compared to the Water St area or other "drink-as-much-as-you-can-for-as-little-possible" types of bars/clubs. |

This quote from Devest8 on MN says it all with regard to clubs in Milwaukee:
| quote: | | In Milwaukee, it's not about keeping the crowd dancing, it's about keeping them drinking! |
ing shame that this attitude is pretty much advocated as a "good mindset" throuughout Milwaukee.
