Sven Vath: The ultimate "Tracklist rocks/Mixing is spotty" DJ?
View this Thread in Original format

Alright then - I've been listening to a fair amount of Vath lately, moreso than I ever have before, and though I generally absolutely love the tunes he throws down, I've noticed his mixing is oftentimes less than desireable.

Don't get me wrong, he's not a walking trainwreck (well, maybe he is, but his mixing isn't :p), but some of his mixes seem to happen... oddly.

I don't know if I'm just missing something really neat he's doing that's going way over my head or what - but his tracklists/programming almost always make up for it. I've found more good tunes because of Vath tracklists lately than I have in almost any other DJ's playlist.

So - Am I crazy, and is his mixing actually pretty good but "experimental," or is Vath kind of like the Nick Warren of Techno?

I hate to say it, but do you have a sample you could post, Rob? I don't have any of his sets...at least none that I am aware of.

You got some good sets? Share em with me plz kthnx :p I havnt heard any Vath sets since some 2004 one I have.

I'd be interested to hear what you speak of :)

Speaking of DJs with great selection and " :o " mixing, me and Bas listened to Luciano's Sci-Fi-Hi-Fi CD the other day and I noticed some light hiccups all over the mix :p Pretty clear it was done conventionally (not computer) since theres a few rather large pitch bends in the first half...but the fact that its like 26 tracks in an hour and some minutes may be why... :p

Alright, I'll try and up a live set soon - Actually, I'll try to find a link to the MM "Sexy Techno at Cocoon" set as well.

The thing is, I even noticed it on Vath's new compilation "Sounds of Sventh Season." (Which is excellent, even though he does play almost the entire 13 minute version of "Mouth to Mouth" :p)

I'll see what I can get to post up here that won't get me in any trouble ;)

What struck me about Luciano's mix is that, if I were recording a CD like that, I probably would have been pissed and wanted to do it over again...but I like that " it" attitude, because the CD is still good regardless...

Yup - and I mean, look at almost any Nick Warren live set that's out there. There's almost always some unreal ID's in it, but the mixing is never great.

On a unrelated note, wasnt one of there albums free for download of there website or something. :conf:

I think it was the whole album on one mp3. I lost it with my old computer. Really enjoyed it.

I think it was Sven Vath, could be wrong. Anyone have any idea what im talking about.

So what you're saying is Luciano is the Sean Tyas of minimal techno?

Sean Tyas is not a laughing matter.

vath style doesnt require the super prog 2 minute transition. Sven plays vinyl and most of the time he is mish mash from raving 23 hours straight.I like him because he gets the party moving. Clovis, luciano doesnt like mix cds(especially non live ones). What is brilliant about his soma cd is that you can hear him correcting the mix.
