CDJs and vinyl emulation

Is it safe to say that the Pioneer 800 and/or 1000 series have the best vinyl emulation? I think this year will be the year that I finally get to add at least one CDJ to my current setup (2 Numark TT1625 direct drives). Assuming the funding holds up as planned, I'm going to add a CDJ and jump into the digital world at last.

I know that Numark catches a fair amount of hell, but I have to say that my decks have been flawless for over a year (watch them give out tonight!). I mix trance, so I don't need any scratch capabilities whatsoever. Effects are not a make or break decision for me. What I really want is solid hardware and solid vinyl emulation.

The Numark CDX, though a bit large, just looks sexy as hell to me because I love that vinyl look and feel. However, Pioneer seems to produce the hardware that holds up the best. Dennon has sexy looking hardware, too, though. What's a man to do?

Assuming you've mixed on a variety of hardware, which in your opinion offers the most vinyl-like experience? Or are they all so different from vinyl that I'm going to have to start over again anyway, even if only for a limited time? I've never touched a CDJ, so I don't have a clue what the jog wheel feels like!

Go Pio!

The Denons look good with thier spinning platter but don't have such a good track record. the Pios got it nailed.

No one really has anything bad to say about the Pioneer. Go for the 1000 as they have the finest pitch resolution, which i feel is a major shortcoming of the 800.

I've got the 1000s and they rock. Speak to any other 1000 owner, or just google, Pioneer wins over Denon anyday. Some Denon fanboy will reply and say otherwise, but thats just cos he's too much of a chump to admit his mistake in buying one. Secretly he dreams of owning a Pioneer. And probably fancies his sister. :D

even though the denon is more expensive than the pioneer cdj800? :haha: im sure that denon 3500 owners could own a pioneer if they wanted one

if you want vinyl emulation stick to turntables you buy cd decks to use cds so why worry about how much like vinyl they are?
but the pioneer decks are a peice of piss to get used to you will get the hang of it in a few days i learnt on someone elses im looking forward to getting a pair i will have 4 decks then lol dont know where they will go.

yeah but the pitch resolution doesnt really justify the ammount of extra money you have to pay for one get the 800.

...especially when even the 200 has the same resolution as the 1000.

Good point. I guess my main concern is the learning curve I'm going to be dealing with. Yes, I'm buying a CD deck to use CDs, but still I'd like it to have good vinyl emulation, as that is what I learned to mix on. I think it's just human nature to want to stick with those thing with which we are the most comfortable.

Personally I would go with the Pioneers, no I'm not a fan boy, don't own any of them, but I have played around with the Pio 100/200/800/1000 and the Denon S3000/S5000 and the Numark CDX, the Numark was nice but just seemed weird to be using a full vinyl without a needle anywhere, plus there pitch resolution ain't so hot, I have not played on the Denon S3500, I have heard its really good, much better than the previous ones, and I hated the previous ones, did not like how the Denons worked at all, and on all the Pioneers I played on, I felt alot more comfortable with them, the design seemed to just make more sense to me, but this is all personal preference, so you should go out and try and get your hands on each one to play with and make YOUR own decision.

well there isnt really a learning curve so to speak once you figure out what the buttons do you will pick it up pretty quick.

As far as I'm concerned turning platters on a CD deck are useless. .02 percent pitch resolution is also something I don't find necessary.

what about SSL? its the digital world too ain't it? the best vinyl simulation that can ever be..
