I find that "DJ Tiesto's" "Around The World" DVD release is killer for that job. Especially when you need the hard sell. Personally, I don't know if I would inflict "The Gluv" on first timers. It's a pain in the ass when you really want to check out who's spinning. What with all the posers, the 800degrees and that neat little trick how they 'POP!' the last person in the place with a shoe horn. Just to ensure that nobody can dance. |

Sure, people evolve through life and tastes change, so ing what. Any one of my friends is worth more to me then music and they all know it. That's coming from a guy that has Trance on 90% of my waking day. Maybe something like, "keep a sense of humor about it", or "ing compromise". A witch hunt is the most idiotic, dysfunctional, non conversational thing ever. I take it most are out of high school? If not I assume are maybe aspiring to be. Where does it stop. I took her to the EMSAY event last night with my people. Because there were so many different kinds of EDM being played, I knew she would probably like SOMETHING. As soon as she got in the room, she started dancing. Hahaha it was wikkid. She was asking me a lot of questions about the music, which I tried to answer as best as I could. Someone gave me a glowstick, and Yuko stole it from me and started dancing around with it. :D
She had to leave after a few hours, but she called me today and asked me to take her out again sometime so she can hear more of this "really good music."
She also learned what "sketchy" means. |

She didn't understand. She said it was scary. I just corrected her and said, "Yukes, say 'sketchy' instead of 'scary' when you talk about the Zone or people that look like they came from there."
The word just wasn't in her vocabulary. |

i like a variety of music and i would also hate to only like one genre. SO boring. therefore, i don't really care if my friends all like what i like. there are more important things in a friendship. |

Point well taken, and I think it's fair to say there were other reasons other than music involved in the situation, that's not what I was intending my comment for. My point is (I should have clarified this in my first post but oh well) that there is more things that revolve around a frienships than music or sports or your favorite donut at the shop. You should be prepared for critisism if you are doing anything, especially in a city which has such diversity not only in culture but mentalities and upbringing's.
For me, what kind of music you listen to should not be held in the same context as a characteristic of someone, rather it's simply someone's preference in sound. The majority of people you encounter in society probably will not know any current tracks outside what's on MTV or on the billboard top 20, it's quite sad to think how limited most people are to music. When someone like that gets into an argument with you and all they can say is 'Electronic music isn't even music', you have to be smart enough to realise you are dealing with the uneducated. There is nothing to prove arguing over something the other person clearly has no idea of. If this offends you that much that you cannot stand to be around this person, maybe you have some adjusting to do.
That's my 2 cents, I don't expect many people to agree but it is my honest opinion. |

I completely agree with everything you said. As you said, if they know nothing about it, you can't really argue with them. It's like someone trying to tell me how good rock is because I really don't know much about it besides the top 40 stuff. A good friendship is definately a lot bigger than just music, and I like having friends who listen to other music, keeps my mind open to new things. Listening to the same kind of music 24/7 gets boring.
There were only a select couple of people who I had to cut off, but I think it was more than just music related lol. |
