US Frigid Cold, European Gale Force Winds: Planet's Immune System?

European Weather

Are these just more examples of the planet trying to counteract or its reaction to the environmental adulteration human beings are responsible for? Over the years can we expect such weather patterns to become more frequent and violently destructive like hurricanes have proven to be? I compare human activity on the globe to a cold virus in the human body. Once infected the virus spreads in the human body attacking its host. In a reaction to the illness the human body’s immune system fights back to combat the virus and after 3-5 days the immune system expunges the virus. Humanity, in my view, has become the planet’s cold virus and one can only image how we will be exterminated.

Is there any way the world will be able to reduce the stress we place on the planet or will political bickering and lassitude only delay such significant steps until after it is deemed too late to prevent world-wide catastrophes?

It's the El nino season, happens around every 8 years and then we go back to the La Nina cycle. Course, rampant hysteria due to ignorance of these two weather cycles is always amusing :)

Actually it was 70F here in Atlanta the other day.

hurricanes have proven to be more frequent and violent? do you have a source to back this up?

The thing is, that El Niño is becoming more frequent and the warming of the ocean is more drastic during the phenomenon in the last 15 years.

Yes, it is a cycle, but the cycle has been shortened, so it is not just something to blow off.

And this about US frigid cold. The places where is should be cold (like where I am) have had less days below freezing than they have had in Texas.

It is just cold where people don't expect it, and those of us that enjoy the cold in the midwest are annoyed that it is so flippin warm.

Course not, it causes terrible droughts in southern Africa, half of Australia burns down when it dries out and weather patterns do things out of sync all over the world. It has been known to be as short as 3-4years in the past.
However it's also not a 'mother nature' getting a head cold either which is an even worse comparison.

It's never a good thing but it is predicatable to some extent, most people just tend to ignore the predictions thinking the weather people on the telly are talking about latin film stars or something and switch off their brain.

Nautilus, basically these people are telling you Earth is OK, its environment is not declining, forests are increasing, pollution decreasing, emissions are down, world temperature average is dropping ... Yeah everything is awesome. If you have a record warm month of December in the human's recorded history its just some kind of coincidence or superstition. The same with United Nations report that every single lifesystem on this planet is in decline - ALL LIES LIES LIES ... lalalala

Now I want you to point out exactly where I said that...

No reading between the lines
No making stuff up
No trying to be clever and twist words

Point out exactly where I said 'everything about the world is fine', and you can quote that for future reference.

Because right now, all youre doing is making a complete arse of yourself by slandering with no substance to back yourself up in your attacks on other people here.

I was just commenting on your belief that the extreme winter so far, according to you, is a natural process part of El Nino. I spiced up my post, I know, with extra stuff. What?

Now to the seriousness - what do you have to say about December 2006 being the warmest month on record and do you think the increasing temperatures have anything to do with extreme weather all around the world?

Some interesting developments so far this year, quite opposite of what El Nino is supposed to bring:

Quoted from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weather_in_2007 :

"Areas of California that have never in recorded history experienced snow now received some for the first time."

"A severe ice storm affected an extensive area of the United States, from California to New England, lasting from 12 January until 16 January 2007. Prior to the storm, the North America had experienced relatively mild winter weather like Europe. However, during the late second week of January, an area of low pressure that formed in the South brought several waves of frozen precipitation over wide areas of the United States. The storm cut power from hundreds of thousands of people in several states. The storm started a period of intense chill around the United States, with frost damages to the California citrus fruit crops estimated to be close to a billion dollars."

"A cold wave started affecting Northern India, Bangladesh and Nepal around the turn of the year, and during January, temperatures close to freezing have claimed more than 80 lives in India and over 50 in Bangladesh.[2] In Nepal, temperatures across the southern plains have been around 12 °C below normal. More than 30 fatalities are attributed to the cold in the country."
