Toty is as much of a joke as the Top 100 dj of the year. I cant even vote, since I dont know one song, so what ever win is good for me, and if an ambient track win, I'm really happy with that, it show TA has evolved musically.

really? :conf:

most of the tracks in the original selection are still trance, 7 out of the 8 final tracks are still trance ... is there really an evolution??? The fact BT is winning doesn't mean TA has evolved imo. It just shows there's a lack of choice for those who would like an alternatvie for trance, for those who would like to have more musical evolution on TA.

At the moment BT's winning because those people can agree it's the only track worthy voting for (while the others are deviding their votes over the 7 trance tracks).

My opnion is there would be more evolution musically-wise if these people would have the choise out of 4 tracks like BT's Antikythera Mechanism, and the other 4 still being trance. That would mean more poeple would have voted for 'alternative' tracks, but it wouldn't mean one of those 'alternative' tracks would win cause their votes would more likely be devided over those 4 tracks.

Still, in that case I think we could speak of a greater evolution than we can now

Yes you can, just vote for The Antikythera Mechanism because it's produced by BT! Doesn't matter if you've heard the track or not.. IT'S BT!!1!

The Antikythera Mechanism isn't well executed?

Would you say that if BT's album wasn't released last year? I'm sure - no.

trancepunkk: I honestly want to know. Are you mad that a track you don't like is winning the TOTY polls, or that the polls have been set up such that the track you don't like would win?

If your answer is the former, then grin and bear it: there are more people who like Antikythera Mechanism than those who like the other tracks. Once you've gotten over this, shut up and leave everyone alone.

If your answer is the latter, I agree that it's bull that the polls ended up this way. I had kind of hoped that a trance track could have appeared that I liked more than Antikythera Mechanism. Unfortunately, this turned out to not be the case, so I went for Antikythera Mechanism. It moved me, it was also interesting and very inspired. There were details and new concepts used.

I also think you're vastly shortchanging Antikythera Mechanism. There are multiple very beautiful themes and motives in the song, as well as several instances of polyrhythm and crossrhythm. Furthermore, all of the electronic glitching sounds are created from sounds internal to the actual piece, according to mathematical rules and concepts. Some of the glitches even take one their own melodic roles. The Orchestra is because the entire TBU album was an attempt to bring together everything western music has brought to the table since the Baroque Period. From the Romanticist Orchestral pomp in Antikythera Mechanism to the Jazzy interlude in Dynamic Symmetry.

I'll agree that by the last few minutes BT gets a little overzealous with the glitching on the orchestra, and the effect is lost, but then that's more of an outro, and the glitches, for all of their overwhelmingness, make sense. The rest of the track is beautiful, though.

Was it the best track on the album? No. IMO that would go to All That Makes Us Human, See You on the Other Side, or Good Morning Kaia. Was it the best track of the year? No. It's inspired and well thought out, but it hasn't moved me the most out of any song I've heard this year. Honestly, though, if I could have written a song in, I still wouldn't have voted for a trance track. I would have voted for something off of Colors in the Wheel by Venus Hum.

very good and informative post.
but that head will probably come again with some stupid and lame response. some people are just not worth the effort you put in your posts

I agree with alot of the posts on this thread.
I just wanted to put on the table (may not have a signicfance to anyone)

BT is the pioneer of trance music.

The pioneer? No, not at all.

He's one of my favorite artists, but it's very inaccurate to refer to him as "the pioneer of trance music."
