Not that I am a YEC, because that argument is ultimately pointless. Has nothing to do with basic values of Christianity.

On the contrary, it has a lot to do with one of the values: accepting a literal interpretation of the Bible. Rejecting most of what modern geology, biology, astronomy, and physics say about the development of the universe and the earth is a pretty big bullet to bite -- or at least it ought to be for anybody who likes to think of himself as rational.

They got that number mainly by tracing the begats. There is a lot of wiggle room in there and holes enough for science to step in and help fill in timelines.

Science and religion don't really step on one another's toes that often.

"Gap theories" seem fairly unconvincing to me, and they are also very contrary to how the Bible has been interpreted by most believers for most of its history.

Oh well. Enough religion-babble for now. :o
