| quote: | Toddler's temper ousts family from plane By JIM ELLIS, Associated Press Writer
Tue Jan 23, 12:54 PM ET
ORLANDO, Fla. - AirTran Airways on Tuesday defended its decision to remove a Massachusetts couple from a flight after their crying 3-year-old daughter refused to take her seat before takeoff.
AirTran officials said they followed Federal Aviation Administration rules that children age 2 and above must have their own seat and be wearing a seat belt upon takeoff.
"The flight was already delayed 15 minutes and in fairness to the other 112 passengers on the plane, the crew made an operational decision to remove the family," AirTran spokeswoman Judy Graham-Weaver said.
Julie and Gerry Kulesza, who were headed home to Boston on Jan. 14 from Fort Myers, said they just needed a little more time to calm their daughter, Elly.
"We weren't given an opportunity to hold her, console her or anything," Julie Kulesza said in a telephone interview Tuesday.
The Kuleszas said they told a flight attendant they had paid for their daughter's seat, but asked whether she could sit in her mother's lap. The request was denied.
She was removed because "she was climbing under the seat and hitting the parents and wouldn't get in her seat" during boarding, Graham-Weaver said.
The Orlando-based carrier reimbursed the family $595.80, the cost of the three tickets, and the Kuleszas flew home the next day.
They also were offered three roundtrip tickets anywhere the airline flies, Graham-Weaver said.
The father said his family would never fly AirTran again.

| There's spanking, and then there's beating. It's just a matter of where to put the line of illegality. Surely breaking your child's bones should be illegal? :wtf: |

To spank a child is a cruel, spiteful, ignoble, mean, disrespectful and dirty act because it is carried out towards a powerless person who is not allowed to defend herself / himself nor to escape from the aggressor and his ignorance. It is also a most destructive act because it damages the brain of the victims who will repeat their whole lives the lies and feeble mindedness of these acts. Any form of physical violence towards a child child and leaves lingering effects for a whole life. Abusers learned this lie from their own parents as you learned it from yours, as your children will learn it from you.

What we do to children when they are small--the good things and the bad things--will later form a part of their behavioral repertoire. Battered children will batter others, punished children will act punitively, children lied to become liars themselves, protected children learn to be protective, respected children learn to respect others weaker than themselves.

answer me this: When your kid acts out, you'll spank them....what appends when they don't take it seriously and turn around and do what they did the first time? Spank them again? You'll only end up spanking and spanking them which is how some parents start abusing their kids. |
+1
In the short term, corporal punishment may produce obedience. But it is a fact documented by research that in the long term the results are: inability to learn, violence and rage, bullying and cruelty, inability to feel another's pain, especially that of one's own children, even drug addiction and suicide unless there are helping, witnesses on hand to prevent that development.

There's child abuse, and there's spanking. Spanking != abuse. |
The claim that mild punishment (slaps or smacks) have no detrimental effect is still widespread because we received this message very early from our parents who had taken it over from their parents. Unfortunately, the main damage it causes is precisely the broad dissemination of this conviction. The result is that each successive generation is subjected to the tragic effects of so-called "physical correction."
Fundamentalists propagate beating children because they disavow their own painful experiences and are unaware of the fact that they are using their children as scapegoats. In the case of our children, the point at issue is not only the welfare of individual families, but the vital interests of society as a whole are at stake. Physical cruelty and emotional humiliation not only leave their marks on children, they also inflict a disastrous imprint on the future of our society.
Spanking can also be sexual abuse:

Bas is Muslim. He wont beat his kids. He will just tie them up & stone them. :wtf: :wtf: |
disregarding the comment on forumer, it's exactly this type of child abuse in fundementalist Islamic societies that is the main source of terrorism and their related international problems
http://www.nospank.net/glazov.htm "ALL SERIAL KILLERS, almost without exception, are severely sexually abused as children. The kind of people who hijack a plane with innocent people and drive it into a building with thousands of other innocent people are related to this phenomenon..."
http://www.nospank.net/demause5.htm "From childhood, then, Islamist terrorists have been taught to kill the part of themselves-and, by projection, others-that is selfish and wants personal pleasures and freedoms."
Food for thought:
Hitler, Stalin, Mao and other dictators were exposed to severe physical mistreatment in childhood, and refused to face up to the fact later. Instead of seeing and feeling what had happened to them, they avenged themselves vicariously by killing millions of people. And millions of others helped them to do so. If the legislation we are advocating had existed at the time, those millions would simply have refused to perpetrate acts of cruelty at the command of crazed political leaders.
and for anyone is pro child abuse (which includes the gentle, loving, 'harmless' spanking) please read up. Not facing the painful truth of the emotional trauma of your past and perpetrating it to helpless children is evil.

I read your post and I respect your opinions and the effort you put in to it. But I don’t want to say abuse sexual or physical should be ok but a spanking is ok. Yeah there is a difference between a spank and putting a bruise on a child’s ass.
MY story. my parents divorced when I was 8. Before then both me and my brother we both spanked when we were bad. After the divorce I lived with my dad and my brother with my mom. My father continued to discipline me when needed and my mother let my brother get away with everything. She would try to talk to him tell him no .. take things away since she didn’t want to spank him. None of this worked on him..
turn to today.. my brother dropped out of high school 9th grade never went back.. he has held various cooking jobs at different food restaurants. He is now 21 still a cook and has no plans on anything but it. He went back to get his ged last year and has knocked up is 19 year old girlfriend. I hate to say it he is what you would associate white trash with.
Myself im 25, graduated highschool..ive done some college. I have an insurance license in the state of Florida (second hardest to NYC) I currently work for one of the largest investment firms world wide and am studying to be a broker. I am in a committed relationship for 6 years now and we are about to buy our first home.
Now that is a big difference in the 2 of us and i really feel it was due to the amount of discipline we each received. Now i know its just my example and not all the research done that you did. But by no means was i abused i was disciplined and i turned out just fine. I will treat my kids with the same amount of discipline I was shown as a child. |

Groovie, you're very right, and you have good points, but I still don't see how physical punishment is right.
I'm glad you turned out so well, and yes your parents must be proud of all the hard work you have done for yourself, congrats. Yes, you can thank that on how your parents raised you and on the path they put you on, but not on spanking. You don't need to spank your kids when they've done something bad.
I graduated high school, went to college and graduated with a degree, I have a good job, I'm going places, and never once was I physically disciplined. I think it all depends on where your parents are from, how THEY were/weren't disciplined as a child and while growing up and their beliefs.
One of my closest friends got spanked quite a bit as a child, not in an abusive way per say, but what you would call " acceptable punishment" , her parents are both great parents, great jobs, university degrees each.....and she barely graduated high school, she's living at home, never went to college and is now confused as to what to do with her life.
So that proves that even the other way around, punishment that you think is ok, doesn't always work. |
