What got you into EDM?

Everyone has a story about how they got hooked into EDM. I wanna hear yours! My life has always revolved around music among other things. punk, rock, classical, jazz, oldies... you name it. If it has heart and soul I will give it a shot. How did I get into electronic music though??? I remember it quite well actually. I was in High School at the time, my parents were gone for the weekend so I did what any normal teenager would do. HOUSE PARTY!! A few friends that I was just getting to know brought over some cd's. I remember asking what kind of music it was and they said "trance". Trance?? hmm... sounds interesting... I'll give it a listen. This forever changed my outlook and appreciation for the gift that is called music. I remember hearing Universal Nation by Push and feeling like the world was about to end. The track that really sealed the deal for me was Forbidden Fruit by PVD. He was definitely my biggest influence while I was discovering this new breed of music. (New to me at least) For me hearing EDM was like seeing color for the first time when all you've ever known was black and white. Once I had a little taste I couldn't get enough!! Still can't! :happy2: So anyway, enough about me... what about you guys??

| In my old friend's car listening to Sasha and Digweed Northern Exposure cds back in 1998/99 and paul van dyk sets. I also listened to WFNX Boston who used to broadcast live from the now defunct club Karma in Boston where big name house djs played. I wasn't old enough yet to go out yet but I knew I would be going to dance clubs one day haha |

haha... i remember just driving around with nowhere to go listening to music...
ya know what, i'm glad you mentioned sasha and digweed. I was introduced to their work shortly after I got into EMD. one of my favorite cd's to this day is sasha and digweed "northern exposure / east coast". it's the one with purple by gus gus (i think) and it ends with symphony by hybrid. timeless.
also, on the pvd note, do you guys remember the PVD set from Vancouver way back when? just like you i've heard countless pvd sets from back in the day but this one sticks out. it was one of the first live mixes I had ever heard. he opens with a break track then mixes for an angel into words. (or the other way around... I haven't heard that set in years) he spoiled it with the next track which has aweful lyrics but besides that it is one of my all time favorite PVD mixes. (if anyone has this please pass along a link!!) |
