btw, since january 1st, 2007 there have been at least 91 threads with embedded videos in the first post in the cor - not including ones that had at least a short line of text preceeding the embed. not to mention at least 40 threads that would have been embeds had the members posting them knew how to do that.

in other words, based directly on my findings, roughly a 10th of all threads here this year have started with an embedded video.
based on those findings and some common-sense speculation, somewhere between a fifth and a sixth of all the threads posted this year have started with an embedded video.

this isn't youtube.

oh, and to echoes: only 3 of those 91 threads directly proclaimed they contain a youtube video. :o
Demoted
I personally think (and I've brought this idea up before in the thread jdat made trying to consolidate all the youtube threads into one which failed miserably) that the humor/cool links/whatever forum should be re-routed as a subforum to the c0r and possibly renamed. It doesn't get much traffic on its own, but re-route it to the c0r and make it strict policy that youtube links as well as other solely-link-related posts get posted in there and you have your problem solved.*

Pipers, am I the only person that can hold their cursor over the thread title and see the youtube link without clicking on the thread?

For example, when I hold my cursor over Extremum's thread titled "pole dancer pwnage..."

I see this text:

object width="425" height="350" param name="movie"value="http://www.youtube.com

I know it's a youtube, so I don't bother clicking the link.

Anyway, like I said before I don't care.

I mean I'm too lazy to watch a youtube video, I'm not gonna click the link, and as far as I'm concerned anyone who posts youtubes should be banned. Why give them a subforum of their own or even a sticky? If they aren't sharp enough to create their own thread and carry a conversation, ban 'em.

;)

lol, pms mode is totally on today, isn't it?

as much as i'd love to do this, there really isn't a GOOD justification for saying "ok, that's it, next person who posts a video gets BANNED!" ya know? i think there are people who enjoy viewing them and i don't think it's fair to take that away completely. COR has always been an "anything goes" kinda forum, with the exception of porn/spam/nsfw/racist/hatism/excessive shenanigans/etc... YouTube videos are mostly innocent harmless fun and it's obviously a pretty huge internet trend these days.

thanks for posting the stats. i think this definitely proves that we need a separate outlet for videos, whether it be a sticky thread or a subforum.

I say have them in a subforum. If they are in a sticky, it would be total chaos. People would get frantic looking for one specific clip, and people with slower lines would have a lot of tidious loading of each clip. The same with Opera, where it takes some time for youtubeclips to pop up.

So I say nay to proposition 14.

either option will never work. what, if someone doesn't post in the subforum, or in the sticky, they will be banned/suspended? that seems kinda lame.

Care to explain why, or was that just a baseless allegation?

I'm sure a warning initially would suffice. Those who push the issue would be dealt with in the same fashion that any others would be - what's the problem with that?

Why are there only 2 choices? Where is the "Let it be" choice?

no. their thread will get moved and hopefully they'll get the point. no sense in suspending someone over posting something in the wrong forum.
