Science vs Religion - who will win?

This debate will go down til the end of times...
Scientist will claim you developed from a single cell, the clergy will say you were created by a higher being...

People don't like to believe science because if science is right and all life is a bunch of particles bouncing around, well then when we die thats it. If you have belief in creationism and a higher-power then you believe that when we die we go somewhere. Everyone wants eternal life and eternal life isn't scientific.
It's a general point but a major one at that. Even if definitive proof came out that proved evolution and that there is no God, people would still believe. Faith is a powerful thing but we all have to accept that our faith could in fact be misleading. |

i think it shows how ing stupid religious zealots can be by assuming a priori that a belief in evolution automatically contradicts a belief in god. maybe a literal interpretation of the bible (but who's stupid enough to believe that anyway?).

what a . this is another problem of theism. their absolutist principals, where conflicting ideas arent tolerated = willful ignorance. if religion held sway over the entire populace we would still be living in caves worshipping the moon. idiots. |

He's right though - if people start listening to scientific proof and open up their minds a little bit, they might become free from the grasps of religion and start thinking on their own. Surely, this poses a great risk to Christianity. Though fundamentally, the doctrines do not necessarily contradict one another, if people start to question things like authority, they might just become smart enough to recognize the foolishness in blindly adhering to ancient texts. :stongue: |

Agreed. Religion and science don't contradict eachother unless you're stupid enough to interpret literally what isn't meant to be literal. There are stupid people and fanatical people on both sides of the fence, as well as intelligent and open-minded ones. |

Science for the win.
Science will truly always prevail because science has actual proof and factual content backing it. All religion has are myths and written texts told (and adapted) by men. While it is possible to manipulate data to suit ones needs, the scientific method remains uniform. The tales of men from several millennia prior can (and often do) be changed to suit ones needs without trace of such changes. |

| the premise of the question is flawed. the purpose of religion is to control minds. the purpose of science is to discover truth. some people seek out the truth, others look for false hope. |

Even science is up for debate sometimes but in the end is far more believable than religious ideas and theology. Its best IMO to follow the moral teachings of all religions but as far as answering questions about where we came from and such to look to science.
People seem to forget how little we knew when religions and their myths were created. People merely came up with crazy ideas to explain the unexplainable best they could. So many of these ideas are obsolete IMO yet people follow them so closely to this day. Science cannot prove all the questions that are addressed by religion but I think it can at least point us in the right direction and have some validity to it. |

The religious ones will win, whatever intellectual failings they might have against the other side can be overcome by violence and fanaticism.
