Juan Atkins (and others) at the pHryl winter solstice party at Masonic Temple, Dec 1997. Went with friends and didn't really know djs but remember liking what Atkins played.

But the events that pulled me into this scene were the night that Oakenfold played at Tonic on a Wednesday night and the Meow events with Warren and Sasha (and their after parties ;) ) |
Ditto! :D |

don't i feel old....
First party i ever went to was a club called The Tunnel on Adelaide St. It was 1995. Have no idea who was playing, but i know Peter Ivals used to play there as well as Mark Oliver.
First Rave I went to was April 1996. Syrous party in a vacant meat locker on Gunns Road. Headliners were Vitamin E and Murat.
Second Rave was Utopia.. May 11, 1996. David Morales, Kimball Collins, John Bishop, Chris Fortier, Darren jay, Nicky Blackmarket, Ray Keith, Ellis Dee, Stevie Hyper D
It was in a warehouse someone on Danforth.. far east end..
DJ Booth in the house room was in the middle of the room and rotated.. there were only 1 washroom for 2000 people and people were pissing in buckets in a basement LOL

my first was a warehouse rave at Halloween called Freakin'. Life changing night for me. I think it was in 2002..at the Better Living Arts Centre at the CNE? is that where that is? lol i was really clueless about the scene here still back then...and i don't think i went to another big event until LOL 04 @ Guv to see Ferry as well! One of the best sets i've ever seen in my life. It was raining in KH..lol....and the crowd chanting the beat to every track he played is a memory i'll never forget!!! |

for the longest time I didn't go to edm events cuz I had no one to go with... all my friends hated the music :(
then i finally got my ass out to see Matt Darey @ Viva, and from then on everything changed. :D |
haha story of my life. When i moved here i was already in love with trance, and some techno, and knew about Guv long before i lived here...i'd heard about it. It took me years to finally find ppl that liked house/trance to go to Guv with me. So honestly, going to Guv for the first time was a HUGE DEAL....i think it was just a reg. night w/ Mark Oliver spinning. Honestly though, it was worth the wait. Guv has been my 2nd home ever since :) |
