I'm from Vermont, so I have a pretty thick New England, "Yankee" accent.
"coffee" = "cahhhfee"
"garage" = "garadge"
I moved from Jersey when I was younger so I still pronounce:
"oarange" = "arrange"
"hystairical" = "hysterrical"
We also say "wicked" often when describing things. Other notable slang words: "dope", "sick", "chill", "package store" (liquor store) |
lol i don't have a boston/new england accent (thank god) but i definitely use all that slang you just listed on a regular basis
as for accent, i speak the queen's english mainly |

| What American accent do you have? Your Result: The Midland "You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio. | | Philadelphia | | | The Inland North | | | The South | | | The Northeast | | | The West | | | Boston | | | North Central | | What American accent do you have? West Style,,,, Dude.
| What American accent do you have? Your Result: The West Your accent is the lowest common denominator of American speech. Unless you're a SoCal surfer, no one thinks you have an accent. And really, you may not even be from the West at all, you could easily be from Florida or one of those big Southern cities like Dallas or Atlanta. | | The Midland | | | Boston | | | North Central | | | The South | | | The Inland North | | | Philadelphia | | | The Northeast | | What American accent do you have? If you speak, you inherently have an accent: even if people think that one's got no accent (or a non-accent, or whatever), the fact is that everyone's got an accent. The supposed neutrality or non-existence of one's accent is political, not linguistic.
It's just naive to think you don't have an accent ;) |
