I love the USA. I really do. I think it affords a lot of opportunity and is a positive force in the world (generally.)

Now that those talking points have been exhausted...

There are things about the US that I despise. This is normal. I think if you can't look at your country in both a positive and a negative light you're completely ed.

-People not knowing/giving a about what is going on in government
-People not knowing/giving a about what is going on in the world
-People believing that a "welfare state" exists in the USA
-People believing we need socialism in the USA
-Education system is fractured
-No state or federal programs are adequately funded except for the military, and the money in the military is going towards the wrong stuff
-Government bureaucracies that are so massive and unmanageable that nothing can possibly get done
-The Abortion Debate and its violence and hysteria
-The Immigration Debate and its hypocrisy
-Corporate Welfare
-Broken health care system
-ty doctors, ty psychologists, ty Veterans administration that doesn't care about the soldiers its supposed to take care of and the bills they're allowed to charge you
-Because people don't understand politics, they'll jump to the extreme end that sounds most appealing ie "If You Love America We Have To Invade Every Oil Rich Arab Country And/Or Nuke It", or "We Should Cut All Funding To The Military And Use It To Build Venezuelan Cultural Understanding Centers Because That Will Fuel A Real Socialist Revolution"
-General sense of apathy and helplessness.

The best thing about the US is that you can make a lot of money if you work hard for it(and smart). But most people don't want to work for it so they are stuck becoming the middle class that think they are better than everyone else including their neighbors.

yeah, but you need money to enjoy a lot of the luxuries. I don't have good scenary here. I live in the Chicago area. No forest preserve near here. Closet national reserve is seven hours:( I intend to move to pacific northwest but I don't have any money to. But really the gov/laws ruins anything remotely fun.

How so? Because of terrorism or something? Or because there's a "great country" already and you're left wondering what you should do with that?

Not really about terrorism, no. Rightly or wrongly, genuine fear of terrorism has largely exhausted itself.

There are lots of reasons. There's apathy and helplessness towards government - the idea that nothing can ever get done and that its pointless to try to change anything. This attitude is especially prevalent amongst young people. There's also sense of apathy about other people - this idea that the majority of people are lazy, and that if they aren't wealthy or well-educated already they don't deserve to be.

There are also these attitudes that breed fear and hysterics, where because people feel the situation in this country and in the world is so terrible that they'd better not waste their time with it, or that something like "the collapse of the family" is so readily apparent that they become crippled with anxiety and preach about the end times. You'll see people on TV all the time weeping about it as they protest some abortion clinic or a courthouse in a state that allows same-sex unions.

Things I hate about Quebec

- wayyyyy too many hippies, too many people wanting everything but want the rich to pay for it.

- drinking age 18, but in reality there's no control, bring it to 21, i'm sick and tired of seeing young 15years punks everywhere.

- slush at every street corner after a snow fall, you never know how deep it is until you set foot in it.

- the government instead of thinking of giving a tax break to those who pay taxes, takes every chance it has to put in place more programs and social services.

- 40% of workers don't pay any taxes, but they use the same services as everyone else, its not fair to the rest of us.

- stupid federal taking way too much taxes compared to the services they give (none in daily lives) and at the end of the year puts it all on debt leaving infrastructure everywhere crumbling. give it back to the provinces so they can breath a bit.

- spending money on the army, useless.

- ing students demonstrating because the govt wanted to hike student fees while they're the lowest in all of north america.

- sick and tired of hearing punks debarking from the plane because they fled their home country only to say " it sucks here "... spare me the bull and go back to your hole.

- immigrant kids studying here in health then leave for the states or elsewhere to practice, no obligatory service period is required... profiting from ridiculous study fees.

- stupid political parties who undo whatever the last government put in place, very little get done.

- annoying separation issue, lets just do it and get it over with.
