With all due respect kid nyce, I don't see how Armin Van Buuren fits into this discussion, other than the title of the thread, which is kinda dumb in my opinion, but w.e.... Like ReenTeenTeen said, there are tons of events at WMC, how is it that the three that JP are part of have all these problems? How is it that no other DJ of the (I'm sure) other dozens of parties going on outdoors were shut down? How is it that he is the only one with any of these complaints?
You want to talk about EDM scene going downhill? This is the pefect example.... Find some way to engage your crowd, no matter what happens, the show must go on! 100$ entrance to a pool party, dude, how's THAT for the EDM scene going downhill? |

Kind of a same story was taking place at Studio (Crobar) opening night when entry was stopped for over 2 hours because fire marshall ordered it so and that didnt stop Calderone fans from standing outside in freezing cold waiting to get into the club only to wait another 2 hours to get their coats back when music was stopped at 12pm on the dot. Everybody still came back next month to get a nice little bonus from Calderone who played extra 5 hours. :gsmile: |
Or the time Boris had to get off early because of a shutdown as well. The way the DJ handles the crisis-AT-HAND (not storming off like a diva) is more important than whatever excuses he can make several days after the fact. Sure enough, Boris issued an email to his fans and made it up to them at the next party, which I heard was ridiculous, and no one lost respect for him. |

True that too. I was there when that took place and I rarely ever make it to Boris parties in Crobar. (Asseateria for me please) Anyway, we got there right around after 4am and not even half hour later the music was shut down, the lights were on and the cops were on the dancefloor hearing Boris scream at them in russian things for which he could of end up in jail most likely if any of them spoke Russian. :toothless |

| i generally blame the clubs for drama like that when it happens, not the dj. especially if it's a bigger name dj where the club probably barely breaks even after racking up drink prices and all that bull. |

Utra took place in the rain and during 'Carl Cox and friends' broadcast on XM where they were laughing about the weather while the music was playing and the fans were dancing for a lot cheaper price. Calderone, DT, Junior (and may be Boris) have bigger crowds following at their parties all over the world with cheaper entry prices and the fans never complain and those Artists have better careers JP will ever reach up to. (Thats how I see it.) |

do you think peoples responses contained within threads similar to this is simply contributing to the decline of the scene? |
it could be the scene itself that's causing people to be so negative nowadays... i doubt negativity on message boards had anything to do with jonathan peters' debacles, dt's denunciation of youtube, or made event charging 30$ at sullivan room... the state of edm is what's giving people something to talk about, and something to not be satisfied about |

| Everybody wants to make money in the end and nothing is wrong with that. EDM is evolving and will go on doing so with or without JP, DT or others because nothing will stop EDM. (thank god) |

I understand but do we need to continue to bash down memory lane? Aren't we mature enough to say damn that sucks, i lost my money (like I did for Sander K @ Space) and I didn't get a good preformance out of it. Let a lone the artist publically apologizing on his site? I think we need to stop thinking we are always right, fact is HAPPENS, and personally if he was lying or telling the truth, I wouldn't want to be near the pool area or the whole wet deck if the generators or wires connecting to it were laying in water.
I think that's a gracious thing JP did. I'm also 100% sure he would have gotten the same hatred if for gods sake he kept playing and everyone got lit up like a light bulb. I'm sure people would be like JP's production team sucks, did you hear what happened, 100s of people were admitted into the hospital from being electricuted. People find excuses to hate because their opinion means the most to them, ************ of the circumstances that the preformer has to face.
All I'm saying is we all need to step back off our hating high horse and say yo happens. JP confirmed the events whether as I said earlier, he's lying, telling the truth, or blatantly making excuses for himself. Whatever the case is, I don't think we need to have discussions about yo this ed up DJs career is done blah blah blah. Let him be, let him play the way he wants to, let him make excuses or be genuine, but for gods sake, hold your damn opinions if it's only negative....
It's easy to hate in groups, that's all. Believe me no offense taken and I'm not here to justify JPs actions or his events. I don't even like the dude, but I wouldn't go as far as joining everyone and saying he's a bag for doing what he did - to me that's the general consensus and i prefer to not choose the easy route and see what everyone else sees thats all. |

so its not his fault...he was there ready to rock it.....his crew ed up.....any artist, whether its a band, DJ, rapper, etc....if they are all set to hit the stage and there are problems with audio, electrical....its not their fault....its the crew that set up and are in charge of making sure things like this dont happen
the whole thing with the sound having to be turned down.....isnt there someone in charge of keeping this in check? everyone knew it was gonna rain that day and a ton of parties outdoors had no problems....but someone didnt do their job and make sure the electrical was safe
ive seen bands perform in the rain....playing electric guitars and singing into microphones...how come they didnt have problems?....cuz the crew did their job and made sure everything was safe
so yea, it wasnt to slap the blame exclusively on him.....but when people dont know whats going on.....and he's the reason they are there...he's gonna catch the heat....its the crews job to make sure things go smoothly so he doesnt end up in these situations
whether its in his personal "posse" or the technicians and crew that set up the show.....people ed up...and it hurt him. |
