Perhaps they should allow schools more influence over students that need it? IE: A kid with ty parents, no parents, etc... I dunno when my parents got divorced when I was in high school I had teachers asking me how I was and telling me their doors were open all the time, perhaps it's different in the US? I don't know. |
well then teachers should get paid even more than they do now then, if they are to teach and play parent at the same time. We already have high taxes for all these social programs to keep society healthy but this will only entail more taxes if parents can't do the job to begin with. |

hey mang, I paid over 20k in taxes in 2006. I think some of our social programs need to be either scrapped or modified ... so no, I don't think we need to spend more, just spend smarter.
Teachers already play parent but more has to be done at home as they are overworked enough as is. At least our gov't is doing stuff like better child-care subsidies/tax breaks, drug rehab, more police on the streets, better welfare for single parents, media awareness programs, etc.. programs that need money and attention so we don't have more shootings like the one that occured today.
No doubt bullying has been addressed (and will continue to be) at every school since Colombine I'd imagine, but the parent has to his/her share big time. |

actually... ill just erase what i wrote... i know ill get put down for examples of my life and i really dont feel like it
but about what Spin Laden wrote... u are perfectly right... i pay that much aswell and its killing me to see how it is being handled. |

Interesting when you get a bunch of guys together, stupid stuff happens. Whether we're talking about a bunch of jocks, military dudes, frat boys, gangstas, and so on, that negative behaviour gets reinforced over and over again. And then the male victims aren't any better too, some choosing the most violent ways for retribution.
I'm almost ranted out by this thread.. gotta go watch some hockey now (yes, the irony is not lost here :p). But as I said before, I'd be surprised if any women were involved in the shooting. We'll see.

PS, do we know the motives yet? Because if it was something else (say racial or sexist) and not bullying, then we've all wasted time here ;) |

well... he shot everybody in one classroom... so i doubt everybody was of the same race or sex in that classroom... |
