RTS's have always struck me as a hugely limited genre, I'm not expecting more than the original starcraft with new units and overhauled graphics, really.

Sure they have fancy lighting effects and flashes and explosions and all sorts of stuff, and it looks different because it's 3D, but the models look blocky and the textures look plain and very cartoonish (and sometimes it looks like there aren't even any textures), compare that with the artwork in the original which was very detailed, and artistically well done.

I take back what I said - just saw the gameplay footage on youtube. The game looks pretty sweet in motion. Plus the new units are pretty cool. I just wish they'd kept all the old ones and just added new stuff instead of replacing it.

well i'm looking at the gameplay footage and it looks like Blizzard is running on the success diagram of EA. "update the textures, sell it as a sequel, make $"

looks like a cash-in POS

They've remade a lot of units, not just textures. And honestly, it's an RTS...

All I think most people want from starcraft 2 is overhauled graphics and a few new units, otherwise the game is already as good as it gets

Yeah, they do that with all their games. :haha: I remember with Wc3: TFT it was pushed back a few times.

I remember a while ago, maybe 7 years ago, I was talking to my friend and we found some site that said Sc2 was going to be released in 2007, coincidence?

And, SuspicionVandit, if this was a "Cash in" it would have been made years ago while the strarcraft frenzy was still hot.

Blizzard gets a lot of praise and a lot of hype and, honestly, most of it is quite undue. They're pretty damn overrated as I see it. They have never been an innovator in the gaming world - I'm sorry if you think that, but look back on some of their 'classic' titles and they offer very little that is 'new' in terms of gameplay.

One thing I will certainly credit Blizzard for, however, is their ability to produce rock-solid renditions of RTS games and RPGs -- Warcraft 2, 3, TFT, Starcraft, Diablo I & II, and World of Warcraft are *not* avant-garde pieces of interactive media. They are, however, excellently produced and I would not readily underestimate Blizzard's ability to make a really fun, engaging and well put together game. They even admitted with WoW that they weren't setting out to re-invent the wheel - just perfect it.
