awesome game? YEAH!
worth waiting that long for every one of their games? not really :/

i mean, it'll probably be 09 in all honesty before it comes out

Yeah, but at least this one has been under production for 4 years already. Knowing their track record they might have done that on purpose - hold out announcing the game until they're reasonably close (like within a year) to a release date. But then again it's blizzard so we never know.

Besides, diablo 2 took alot of time because they completely redid the engine halfway through. Warcraft 3 and WoW were released fairly quickly after they were announced if I remember correctly.

Blizzard is not into photrealism in their artwork, thus why you won't see some "OMG that is so amazing" graphics. It is just the nature of the artistic vision of the people at the top.

What they do focus on though, is making games that a lot of people enjoy playing on a number of different levels. Their RTS games, Diablo, and even to an extent WoW all have varying levels of interactivity with other people. I never played WC3 or SC online because I enjoyed the single player aspects. Some people played them only as online games where they would grab the tech-tree map out of the book and start the zerging. In WoW you can solo through the game and have an enjoyable experience, or you can go out and work with others the whole time.

The key to their continuing sucess is the fact that they have a knack for giving the consumer at least some ability to "get what you make it" out of their titles.

They have been working on this for years, and I am sure that it will probably be released before xmas as they state if only because with the sheer volume of nasty press they got about the WoW expansion delays, they have come to the reality that they don't have much leeway given to them in that regard anymore.

In terms of a release date I, as much as it is frustrating, believe that the notion that some game producers have at the moment of 'when it's done' can't be a bad thing, I think waiting for a fantastic game is always preferable to having a mediocre game now. Plus we have the original game to play until then, I wonder how this announcement will affect battlenet usage etc?

Blizzard gets a lot of praise and a lot of hype and, honestly, most of it is quite undue. They're pretty damn overrated as I see it. They have never been an innovator in the gaming world - I'm sorry if you think that, but look back on some of their 'classic' titles and they offer very little that is 'new' in terms of gameplay.

i dont think they are overrated...and i dont understand the whole innovative bs that ppl are obsessed about.

they make good games, games that dont get boring quick, and so if one is entertained by a game, what's the big deal?

im more of an RTS player, and i think bliz makes the best rts games that involve the most strategy and the most critical thinking.

and i kinda think they are innovative, but not in such an overt sense cause at first you think thier games are just like everyone elses in terms of play style and all that crap, but no, bliz's games are much more deeper and much more complex than most other games out there.

See, this is what I was talking about.

Hahaha, screw the haters. Starcraft is back and it's not giving up the crown. Starcraft 1 > all. Most balanced RTS ever.

:haha: blizzard didnt make company of heroes or supreme commander so i have no idea what youre banging on about.

big ing deal. its easy to "hard balance" a game with artifical rulesets that completely hamstring tactical and strategic options.
Philby
there will be no hero units :(
multiplayer games could average out at 20 mins per match, possibly less, 15 mins
multiple early game tech trees to provide different rush strategies
armies of hundreds of units
no group selection limit
blizzard have been working on it since 2003
proffesional players will be consulted

im still excited about continuing the story
but this seems like a more specific, extreme version of rock-paper-scissors style gameplay. that really didnt bother me with the new c&c vs supreme commander and i guess with the history of starcraft it really wasn't going to be any different. but maybe i was hoping for something more with this. it looks like 2d gameplay in a 3d background, i thought that maybe they would have taken it a bit further. im not interested in competitive online stuff so all the balance and whatever will be lost on me. it seems that there is a big emphasis on professional competitive play with this game and im not really interested in that. i really like the character of warcraft and starcraftm especially war3. i have a feeling this won't be as good in terms of that and will be a streamlined fast action game with emphasis on competitive play. im still very interested in seeing what its like though! at the moment i think i'm with you on this one pkc...

was about to say the same to you! ;) like you, im not interested in competitive online play. i hate playing against people who have memorised a specific build order to produce unit X the fastest. all WC3 games online i played were identical and it just got boring, win lose or draw.

i have high hopes that things will turn around, but at the moment im less than enthused. will obviously still check it out and hope im very very wrong! but there are other, much more promising titles coming in the next year, such as "sins of a solar empire" which looks fantastic.

Pardo suggests that Starcraft II will, like the original game, still be a game about "hard counters"--such as how certain units can be directly "countered" (defeated decisively) by specific counter-units; as an example, Pardo shows a brief demonstration of protoss templar units, which are the counter-unit to zerglings, annihilating a swarm of the tiny zerg infantry with their "psi storm" ability.

*sighs*

Questions were put out asking why StarCraft 2 seemed to play so similarly to the original. Blizzard responded by saying they understood there were some similarities, and that's because they wanted to keep its base gameplay mainly the same, as they're trying to meet the expectations of both professional gamers and casual alike. They feel they don't need to have a fancy feature or ability, such as Supreme Commander's zoom, to be good.
