ive heard ppl who want to get a house, settle down, and start a family find its difficult. with average house at 1/2 million, and the taxes to go with that, its not easy. either have to move inland or out of state. obviously if your young and don't care about renting, but at some point you have to consider your future.

well we have LOTS of office jobs. for instance we have engineering firms, tech firms, automakers, contruction, medical and dental. and we have LOTS of all of those firms. the automakers we have here are honda, ford, daimler-chrysler, mazda, hyndai, and kia. and im talking OFFICE jobs for those companies. we have engineering firms in ALL fields. in the tech industry we have companies such as broadcom, blizzard, samsung, gateway and a few others too that i cant remember. we have all the cell phone providers down here (verizon, nextel, sprint, tmobile, etc). LOTS of contruction. what else do you want? i mean seriously. we have EVERYTHING you can imagine here.

while i dont disagree that buying a house is very expensive, (average home price in orange county alone is 650k but thats in the whole county. if you were to break it up the way they should it would be north county is average of 500k and south county averages 900k.) you also make much more in general. especially in good professional positions. also taxes arent that high. property tax is at 1.5% and sales tax is at 7.75%.

If I were you I would beat that chick up. Plus how old are you??? Odds are you could find a desk job and make more money, and its better.

this is why i said cost of living is relative. your 40k a year job in burlington is 2-2.5x the wage here. so your house thats 200k in burlington is of course 800k..but you make 110k a year. whats the big deal? :)

ok but whats property tax rate where you are? i know in a lot of states its like 8% or 9%. which would rather have? lower percentage and higher worth or lower worth and higher rate? either way its a wash. :)

i think thats the mill rate which isn't the same as percent. i believe a mill rate of 8 = 0.8%

edit: i just looked up connecticut its high 2-4% so you're right it evens out.

ok i'm moving to San Diego :p
