[Review] 06.29.07 Cosmic Gate with Askew and j00f at WH

before anyone asks, yes Drew n I are BACK early. No, WH didnt close at 4am...we actually left as j00f was coming on. The room ended up WAY too hot despite the intial AC, too many sweaty/nasty ppl in the room, and we were straight sober. Not that the night was bad at all, not that j00f disappointed, in fact his FIRST track sounded VERY promising and i cant wait to hear reviews about his closing set.
so yes it was Askew, then Cosmic Gate, then j00f, in that order.
Overall I actually had a pretty good time. It was really fun! :toothless
Arrived during Askew's set...He def threw down some good tracks...but I'll let someone else review him more objectively cuz I was there to hear Cosmic Gate. Their set was fun, nothing REALLY amazing but I was still very enthused cuz it was my first time hearing them live. And with that, they DEF did NOT disappoint. Had more fun at this party than in recent times. Def kept me dancing nonstop. god i soo love their SOUND. :tongue2 def saying something that we stayed, was sober and the music was what was driving our energy and enthusiasm up till 4am. NOT BAD AT ALL.
Webster Hall was better than I expected, altho I won't say anything more beyond that. I did like the way they set up the DJ area. Also they did try to make the stage/production interesting with fire-twirlers and an aerial performer (altho that MADE the room much HOTTER than it should have been), the sound was a bit TOO loud and needed tweaking.
I'm horrible with Track ids: I def recognized a lot of tunes but I can't id them for my life!!! One notable one was "Urban Train" being a big favorite (i only know this cuz Robdawg yelled it in my ear :haha:
NOIIIICE encore: Firewire (DJ SCOT PROJECT REMIX) which was in sick!!!!!
Def enjoyed stomping with the usual suspects. great seeing zaneta (hope you got your interview), yankee (u were def having fun dancing all over the place!), chimera66 (heeh very cheery tonight chica :) ), robdawg, dj eco, stanvoid, kingchinc and gf + friend, chanman7473, starsoprano, dverge, dj madiroze, zachias31, enigmaT, mellymel, thomas datt, big mike, fotoaddict (cant wait to see your PICTARS!!!)...and also got to see some old friends from the Roxy days/jersey.
nice finally meeting Gjorgi (hehe he def had a LOT of fun tonight, taking madd pics with everyone, dancing up a storm, stealing Wai's photons and literally PICKING girls up and swinging them around) haha so cute. <-- I can't WAIT to hear his review.
funny thing is that as we left, we ran into G with his gf(not sure if they were at the party or not), and then Blake - who TRIED to get in but they had already closed entry around 2 or 3. awww.
sorry if im reiterating myself at some pts, really tired and gonna ass out now.

Whoah Madiroze, run on sentence much? BTW, anytime, dear.
Saw about 45 mins of Askew, and he killed it. Great. CG was fun poppy silliness, nice to see something new, but nothing earth-shattering. J00F was fabulous, better than the Sulli show for sure.
The DJ's being so high up isn't my favorite, but the visuals that went along with it (i'm sure pete's or Z's or someone's photos will explain it if you weren't there) were phenomenal. I've never seen anything like it. Superb.
The PEOPLE tonight were so much fun. It's not usual that I feel like one of the more coherent people in the group. Everyone seemed to have gotten obliterated before I even walked in, so thank you all for being so entertaining. I won't name names.
Funniest moment of the evening... I'm liking the track that's playing, so I'm asking around to find out the name. Wai and Kelly suggest asking Robdawg, and he just looks at me with a strange mix of anger and joy and just says "shut up, SHUT UP!" Apparently one shouldn't talk to Rob when he's trying to sing along...
Finally, thanks so much to Wai, Polly and most especially PETE!!!! for a non-russian breakfast at the russian breakfast place.
Just for the record, I'm OK with more trance events at WH. It could use a bit more air conditioning, but enjoyable nonetheless. |

| Awesome time, I gotta hand it to WH, I loved the visuals, the sound wasn't so bad (needed a little more tweaking for J00F's set especially but whateva!), and I had an awesome time.. Those visuals were sickkkkkkkkk though, two thumbs up, little things like that and the DJ setup really make a party go above and beyond... I'd def go to Webster Hall again for the right lineup, which it seems they've got plenty to come of in the future! |

No offense, man, but a lineup like that, and at a superclub, it wouldn't surprise me if they were charging like 40-50$ at the door after a certain time... If this were a Made Event and happening at Pacha, most people wouldn't have seen it as an issue... Sucks you missed a night man, next time I guess! |

oh hmm tru...okie yeah ill concur with that. yup anything after the famed 2am cutoff point the price is undoubtedly higher. read it wrongly at first *still sleepy* i slept like maybe 3 hours at best rofl *hmm*
but i think khalil had a prepaid ticket too (at least i thought he did). if he was refused admission for that, well then WH DOES suck. not sure tho at this pt |

Yeah haha the whole tweaked out crew in the front right corner (eek)... Just wish they came out for Preach, might have filled up a bit more hahaha... But yeah, it's a big Jersey crew, I knew a bunch of them, they're all Cosmic Gate and Scot Project whores...
On another note, J00F rocked it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J00F > Cosmic Gate in track selection, although he was having some problems with the monitor so the mixing was a bit off, but no harm done, we DJs have all been there! |

shruggs you know, i had NO expectations whatsoever, given the state of how trance parties are nowadays, some great moments, a LOT of the same tracklist as the party from another dj a month ago. Im soo into different sounds and genres now and appreciate more of what YOU do (what DO you call that you spin, can't pinpoint it, but its def FUNKY and COOL to say the very least), along with all the locals. :) but i tried to keep an open mind last night. As GREAT as djs can be, they DO evolve/keep up with the times. I started in the scene with their productions in 2002, i certainly did NOT expect a circa 2000 set...but its that I am just soo ENAMORED with their sound that it still made it one of the funnest parties ever, and i do NOT regret going one bit. to me, Cosmic AND j00f still had THEIR edge. if only they came around more often in the past. Awww...:tongue2 just had to pay homage, u know?
oh mann i DID sorta want to stay for j00f but goddamns my legs were hurting!!! glad to hear he was on par and then some. :( :( :( man j00f *used* to be the ONE producer/dj that would drag out old school NYTAS into coming out (like in May 2006). i guess times HAVE realy changed. |

ok crazy Gjorgi...i think ur cameras gona be busting with madd single/close up photos with all the female NYTAS and do you know, you MUST have been picking up and swinging around all the female NYTAS EVERY CHANCE You got???!!! ahha well at least thats what i was experiencing throughout the night ahha. also i think u stopped to take a pic of me and you like 5 FREAKIN times, each time forgetting the previous. well of course i didnt mind it THAT much. hehe. u def MADE me laugh a lot!!!
