took french from kindergarten on although the majority of my classes were in english. It was an immersion program, i stil had to do my math and stuff in french which confused the out of me when i switched to english math in high school...they don't divide the same lol. |
Reminds me of the time I had to study maths in English for the first time. It was incredibly difficult at first because I didn't know what was what any more, except when it was spelled out in mathematical notation. |

I took French and Spanish in school. I wanted to do German but it wasn't on the curriculum. At the time, I had a flare for them and got pretty grades but now, I can understand maybe the odd bit of written French.
I'd like to take them up again, including Japanese. |

for all those that take a language and dont remember it...why take it? i mean i guess i can understand taking it for going to college and all but ONLY if your going to a uni. otherwise its stupid.
and then for those that take a language in uni why would you take it to just promptly forget it? id take one that can be beneficial to myself. even if its not beneficial to my work it may be beneficial to something i enjoy. |

At school in Scotland when i was there, you had to choose at least one foreign language to study. I intended to take up Spanish and home-teach myself after school, but I simply lost interest. |

its kinda similar here in the states. you have to take a performing art or foreign language to satisfy graduation requirements. |

i don't think people intend to forget the languages they've learned. whether it be a foreign language or history can you say you honestly remember everything you learned in school? people forget things if they aren't used, i knew a lot of french but it's all gibberish to me now and i knew a decent amount of russian but now that's pretty much going away too although i can read better than anything else because reading is something you can do without another speaker of that language around. |
